I've found that whenever we travel, LO's appetite is smaller for the first few days but otherwise she has done pretty well. But then we've not changed timezones.

@Maysprout: for the first 2 days, I've found we're pretty much on the old time schedule, so yes, that included nights of having play time and breakfast at 2 am.
I am pretty strict with naps and schedules, but I do make exceptions for holidays. I find people are also pretty respectful of the time change and not having too many visitors at once.

That's tough! I think the important thing will be keeping YOURSELF sane! Kids tend to reflect the moods/attitudes of those around them, and if they see you handling the changes well, they will likely handle them better.

I hope you can get plenty of rest, good food, and free time during all the chaos!

@NYCaliMama: Thanks so much! Makes me feel better to know other people have made it work.

My biggest worry right now is people keeping her up or overwhelming her when we visit and it leading to super grouchy pants baby so I'll just have to be proactive. And getting her adjusted to the time change without too many tears.

@looch: We may be walking around, I was planning on just sticking her in the Ergo whenever she wanted to sleep so we could still go about our day while she can take a few more day time naps while she gets adjusted but not really trying to keep her up if she needs to sleep. I'm just worried I'll have a baby ready for a new day at 1 am thinking it's time to wake up. Did you do anything if they still wanted to wake up at their normal time?

We're in a state of flux too! Moved out of our apt last week, in a temporary furnished apt now (two blocks away)... Will move across the country next week... Then live with my mom for a bit (7 people in a small-ish 3 bdrm home) while we apartment and neighborhood hunt. Then hopefully... buy a house before the end of the year... it's not easy, but we are sticking to a routine as much as possible. My 10 month old is doing great with it so far because her general routine is eat-activity-sleep. She's pretty adaptable if on that schedule. My 4 year old is doing surprisingly well... We talk about our plans a lot with her so she knows what to expect. Keeping their favorite clothes and toys around helps too. Good luck!!

Yikes! I sprouted hives just reading your post (I hate travel and change)!!! I have zero experience with this, but I'd recommend also trying to keep a good schedule as stable as possible, and maybe trying out the travel crib or tent so that she gets used to sleeping in that environment? Good luck!! And have fun too :)

The time difference could work in your favor or it could work against you, there's really no telling until you fo it, you know? It takes my son 4 days to adjust over 6 time zones, both ways, so it's awesome if you have some help in those days. What I found was just to let them sleep and eat when they want, they'll adjust on their time, so don't worry about keeping to your schedule. We do keep the routines the same, so same activities at nap and bedtimes, just at adjusted times.
Kids are resilient, I am the one that is stressed and makes the situation worse, so now that I know this, I try to be extra patient. best of luck!

I think you'll just have to go with the flow but keep DD's surroundings as comfortable and familiar as possible. I'd try to stick to the same routines but just know that their exact timings will probably be off. We're traveling at the moment and brought all of LO's comfort items along and keep to the same routines so she has been as happy as a clam. Good luck and safe travels!

The shit is about to hit the fan. I guess one pile already hit the fan but luckily we're over that hump and now onto the next pile.

There's a month between when we move out of our house and when we move into our other house.....yikes! We're going overseas to visit relatives for 2 weeks during that time and living with our parents for the other 2 weeks. So baby will have to get used to a 6 hour time difference while we're overseas plus be sleeping in several different places over the course of the month. She's fairly flexible in her routine and sleep but this is asking A LOT of a 12 month old. We'll have a lot of help from family, which is good but also has it's drawbacks with lives and routines being invaded and taken over.

Any tips on keeping sanity during this time?
