@Dandelion: @Mrs. Champagne: we've been doing a loose version of EASY lately with success. Naps are much better now that I'm more in tune with how long she can stand to be awake. We're still at 2-3 hour stretches at night, but at least it's consistent at this point! Naps are supposed to consolidate around 6-8 weeks so I'm looking forward to that! Hopefully it brings better night sleep, too.

@Dandelion: I think it's helped with night sleep! Keeping awake for a couple hours before bed has been good I think!

@Mrs. Champagne: yeah M's naps are short usually. He also is still waking up every 2-3 hours at night even though he goes right back to sleep after.

I'm gonna try a loose version of EASY and see if it helps.

I didn't attempt to stretch out feedings until we started purees. Up until that point I fed on demand. Now we are on a schedule during the day and I feed at night on demand.

@Dandelion: i think its going ok ----- A hasn't been napping the best though. he falls asleep good, but doesn't nap for long. Yesterday his last couple naps were only 30 mins or so and he had a major melt down like never before around 830 :( .Today this has been his eating times (below). Including eating and activity he is up for about an hour or a little more.. closer to an hour today (he has a cold and isn't feeling good! :( ) After that he sleeps until next eating time. So his naps are 1 hour usually at most.

330am feed, right back to sleep after eating
651am feed, up until about 8:15
932am feed, up until about 1030
1156am feed, up until 1250
203pm feed, up until 3
4pm feed, up until 510

So basically we aren't getting to the 3 hours between feedings, but mostly 2-2.5 hours. He is sleeping about 930 or 10pm to 330-4am ish though, so that's been great. We don't let him nap much after 7 or 8. He is sleeping right now.. will probably eat at 6 or so and then be up from his last nap around 8 I would guess. We try to keep him up as late as possible.. when he starts to get fussy he has a bath and then bottle of pumped milk and then bed. He usually falls asleep in minutes once swaddled.

I've been doing a sort of EASY type schedule with my fellow, (6 weeks) and it's going pretty well. I'm not strict with it by any means, but usually he eats, stays awake for a total of 60-90 mins (including eating time) then I swaddle him turn on some white noise and he naps. Sometimes his nap is only 30 mins, but usually we can get to almost three hours from the start of one feed to the next.

I like doing it like this because when he wakes up from a nap and is fussy, I know he is usually hungry. And once he eats and is up for a while and starts to fuss, it's usually because he is sleepy!....

Obviously sometimes though he eats every hour or something random when he is growing and the schedule flies out the window, but for the most part its helpful! Good luck!

There's a huge growth spurt at 6 weeks. Perhaps she hit it early? Also, mine was a snacker. I just went it. I'd try waiting an extra 15 min but it just made everyone miserable.

@ShootingStar: yep. She used to always take both, but the past few days she sometimes only takes one. The shield weaning has her a bit more frustrated when eating and she frequently pops on and off, shakes her head trying to latch, etc.. I wonder if she's just too exhausted to go for the second? She has lots of poopy/wet diapers and is gaining weight though.

I would try keeping her awake at the breast to see if she will eat a little bit more. We were told to strip him down to just his diaper, keeping him cool would make him stay awake a bit more. Or to try flicking his feet, or putting a cool washcloth on him. Hopefully if she can get a bit more in one feeding she will stretch them out a bit.

@Ms.SK: I know that her snacking is eating, it's just how I refer to it since it's for such short periods of time. :) I keep doing everything on demand because I definitely don't want to diminish my supply and I know that she's just letting me know what she needs to establish that supply, but I just wonder if there is a way to stretch them out a tiny bit?

In my opnion and for the safety of your supply I would keep doing what you are doing. 1 month is to early in my opnion to limit their intake. All this "snacking" is really eating and every bit counts as you establish your supply up to the 8 week mark.

But please consider your personal goals as my above advice may not apply to your specific situation. If you would like to share your goals I may be able to help more (all this coming from a Mom who still EBF her 21 month old twins to share my goals with you).

LO is a month old today (what?!) and the past week has been snacking alllll day. During the day she's eating every 45 mins to an hour (before napping and after). She did this around three weeks and I attributed it to a growth spurt, but now it's back in a big way. Its too early to implement a strict schedule and I'm still feeding on demand, but wondering if there is a way to lengthen the feedings out a bit. She seems genuinely hungry each time and shows plenty of hunger cues so I would feel bad to not offer her the boob, but perhaps I'm a bit too eager to always offer it? Also, we're still in the process of weaning from the nipple shield. That's a whole other story, but maybe that has something to do with it, too?

Her sleep is also taking a hit from the snacking because she only sleeps for 30-45 minute spurts, and it always has to be in my arms (not complaining about that part, but sometimes I do need to eat or something :P ). I'm not sure if she's waking up because she's hungry (sometimes she only eats from one side before passing out) or what, but I need a remedy for both her short sleeping and snacking! I know she's young yet, so I'm still trying to still do everything on demand but it's also exhausting!
