This has been a thing with my DD for years! She's 5 yo now and still hates it, even despite swimming lessons, visors, that flexible rinse cup... I tried everything! What @Andrea suggested is what's worked best so far... Introducing taking a shower. We use the handheld showerhead on my 2 year old also. She doesn't like it 100% either, but is getting used to it.

I lather my son up and then I use a washcloth to remove the soap. It's not the best, but he will absolutely not tolerate me dumping water on is head.

Will she go in the shower? Once we started showers, hair washing has been a breeze!

@lemondrop: That's cool! I might need to get one of those in the future!

@BeachMama: I had a visor when I was little! I think my mom ordered it from Avon, so I thought it was the coolest thing ever!

@BeachMama: Bummer! I was like that as a kid too and I honestly have no idea what my parents did. I screamed and screamed when it came to putting water over my head or laying me back. Hopefully you find something that works!

@BeachMama: Yes, it works great for us when he doesn't like being rinsed, I have a lot more control with it when rinsing. He can be quite moody about being rinsed too, it just depends what phase he decides he's in ;)

I also use a flexible cup. It doesn't completely shield my kids faces (they usually move a little when I try to pour) but it does help them a little. I also try to dry off their face with the wash cloth right away.

@MrsScallop - she freaks out when I lay her back in the tub. Makes me wish I'd done swimming lessons with her this summer!

@Banana - you lay her across your lap when she's wet? Are you in the tub with her?

@Lemondrop and @Sandy - I've been thinking about buying something like that. Do they work well? I've tried cupping her forehead w/ my hand but she kinda freaks out like she thinks I'm trying to tip her back.wards. I'm hoping this whole thing is a phase she'll soon get over.

We use one of those flexible cups @lemondrop: posted...I got mine at Target.

Around 18 months my LO started hating having her hair rinsed even though it never bothered her before. I just kind of press on and after a few weeks she stopped complaining. On days where she was really hating it I would use a small wash cloth and soak it in water and kind of squeeze it in her hair to rinse it...it takes a lot longer to rinse but the flow of water is so controlled.

My MIL got us one of these at BRUS- it has a flexible rubber lip that fits up against the forehead to keep it out of the eyes. I'd just tilt his chin up with one hand and rinse with the other.

Now, thanks to all of his swim lessons paying off, he thinks it's hilarious when we dump water on his head! That's only happened recently though (21 months).

I do something similar to @banana:, just lie her down gently, holding her head up a little with one hand, and use my other to bring water up and over her head. My LO hated having her hair rinsed until I started doing it this way. Now she doesn't whine or fight it at all.

I hold her across my lap and lay her down facing up. and then I use a pail to rinse her hair. Similar to how they wash your hair at the salon. Water doesn't get in her face at all!

DD is 17 months and HATES having her hair washed. I try to cup my hand around her forehead to keep water from getting in her face but she just fights it. I've also tried putting a toy up high and having her look up at it while I rinse her hair, but that hasn't worked well either. I've resorted to just dumping water on her head and rinsing her hair as fast as I can.

Any tips on making this a less painful process? Anyone use one of those bath visor thingys?
