Although I have some mommies at my church, they don't live very close to me so I'm totally on the lookout for nearby mommy friends, too. I joined a Mommy and Me class, and met a few ladies that way, but we haven't hung out outside of class or anything. I also joined a local meetup for moms, but haven't had a chance to attend a meetup yet.

Good luck! It can be so hard to meet other moms :( I totally feel for ya!

@littlecasita - That pre-yoga class suggestion is great! I'll have to refer back to that once LO is here! I think I understand what you mean about the developmental gap. Definitely a one year age gap already makes such a big difference in playing the first couple of years! Good luck to you too!

@beachmama - Thanks for your suggestions! maybe I will attend a couple of the meetup.com groups that I want to join later on in my pregnancy so I can already be active in the group (and maybe find other pregger mamas!) I will have to look into those other classes you mentioned too! :)

@oliviabolivia - LOL! That's me too! I'm like staring at other pregnant women! haha - but I think I'm too shy to strike up convo most of the time until I'm actually obviously showing. I'm starting to look for prenatal yoga classes too, just got a recommendation from a friend, so hopefully there will be some nice ladies there!

@heatherloveskenny - ahahaha! I'm like that too about our old neighbors! Like "why are they so snooty?" Looks like a lot of meetup.com suggestions (which I was planning to join eventually).

@duckduckkristen - This is why I love HelloBee - y'all can commiserate with me! :) That's got to be tough in a small town. Hopefully your music/story time works out!

I'm in the same situation, except our whole town is only 400 people! It's hard when LO is very young since a lot of the moms groups are people with older kids. Our library has a music/story time for babies 0-23 months that LO loved, and I spotted a couple other babies his age, so we'll continue going and see if we can make any friends! I've accepted the fact that I will never have mom friends super close by, since our neighborhood is all older people who either have teenagers or kids in college.

We haven't been able to make friends with any young parents in our neighborhood either. There is only one, somewhat young couple that live right next door and they ignore us (what's their beef!?). But my son just started preschool and a lot of the moms are starting to hang out, go on jogs, go out to coffee, etc while the LO's are at school.
I haven't tried meetup.com but that would be my next suggestion.

I've had luck with the mom groups on meetup.com and have lately taken to accosting the pregnant ladies I see on the street. I'll chat up anyone with a bump.
I've also met some other moms-to-be through prenatal yoga. I've been really putting effort into finding our LO (and myself) friends by being where other pregnant ladies will be. So far so good.

Also, there are a couple stores here that carry nursing/baby/pumping gear that also have classes, lectures, and mommy and me groups. Do you have anything like that where you are?

I'm a member of a meetup.com moms group and there are some preggers girls there too, so you could try going to some of their events. Mine usually does a coffee meetup for moms and small babies that a few moms-to-be go to.

I have managed to make a few friends in my neighborhood, we have a community pool that is part of our HOA and I met them there. There is also a Mommy Group in our neighborhood, but I haven't done it yet.
I met some mommies at a mommy and me swim class at the Y. And most of the mommies I have met were at the Baby Boot Camp class I do.

It will be much easier to meet mommies once your LO is older, I would imagine you can meet mommies at the Mother Goose hour at the Library too.

I was hoping that I'd stay in touch with people in our hospital birthing classes, but none of us ever exchanged info. Now my LO is 3.5 months, so I've been getting more anxious to get out and meet people during the week, especially because only a couple of our friends have babies and they are not stay-at-home parents. We live in a townhouse community, but there are no younger families unfortunately.

I've joined a couple groups on meetup.com, but I've noticed most of the families have older babies - like a year or older. There's just such a big developmental difference right now that I'd prefer to meet some families that have children around the same age as my LO.

A couple weeks ago I started going to a baby yoga class and there are 5 other families that attend, so I'm hoping we'll stay in touch after class is over, especially since the class is meant for pre-crawling babies. This is the site I used to find the class in case you are interested in finding one near you: http://www.itsybitsyyoga.com/classes/find.html

If you are looking to meet other pregnant moms now, maybe try finding a prenatal yoga class near you?

I'm in the same exact situation as you. I'll have to wander into the next neighborhood, which thankfully isn't too far, to run into couples our age. My friends live in a far away town where all her neighbors have kids around the same age as her daughter. It's awesome and scheduling play dates is such a breeze.

@artbee - Yes. I plan to join a group or two on meetup.com after baby arrives. The hospital everyone goes to is in another city, but our city alone is 66 square miles big, so every neighborhood is sectioned off if you know what I mean?

@mrbee - Yes, we have a few playgrounds in my immediate neighborhood, but I've only seen older kids (i.e. 5+). We've lived here for over a year now, and I'm always on the lookout for pregnant women and moms with strollers (heehee, stalker!) but there really haven't been any. I think I will have to venture to neighboring neighborhoods if you know what I mean?

Have you looked into meetup.com? I've heard good things about it. Maybe you can take some of the classes at the hospital to meet some pregnant friends.

My neighborhood is very family friendly, that's one of the big reasons we moved here. There are a few families with young kids that get together every once in a while at the park or something like that. All of the mom's work but me though, so it's not a SAHM thing, but it's still nice.

I've come to realize that while I live in a suburban utopia - our whole city is family-centric and geared towards kids, our actual little neighborhood mainly consists of original owners who are grandparents or empty-nesters. For sure, DH and I are the youngest couple on the block. Today, I almost feel like we should have bought in a newer neighborhood (with higher HOAs and less land) just to have similar couples like ourselves...

I get a little envious when I go on my longer walks and see ladies walking in their little couples, same-aged women, sometimes with kids, babies, or not. Do you know what I mean?
I guess when LO arrives I will join some kind of SAHM meetup group, but until then, I'd love to have some preggers-mamas to make friends with! Most of my friends with babies work, or live in another city.
Any suggestions? And what is YOUR neighborhood like?
