@Katrocap: Ah, I see. For us, it was just one day all of a sudden he was actually eating instead of playing. So, hopefully it isn't stressing you out too much!

@smurfette: Thanks for the information. DS is the only baby at daycare (it's a family daycare, the only other kid is 3 yrs old), so I don't think we'll need to label, but I'll check.

@scg00387: Thanks! Even though you SAH, your schedule is very helpful as a model. Starting with one meal sounds manageable. I'm not sure if we're doing homemade or BLW, at this point DS is basically refusing everything, but bento boxes sounds like a great idea.

@Katrocap: I SAH but if it is helpful - I would just start with one solids meal and build from there. If you're doing homemade stuff, you could just put the frozen cubes into a tupperware and let them thaw through the day or use little green pouches. If you're doing BLW you could check out bento boxes, I think tupperware has cheap ones! We've been gungho on solids since about 7.5 months and at 10 months we still don't do snacks (just 3 meals). If it's helpful in terms of the hours vs meals this is what his schedule looks like

7a milk
9a breakfast solids
11a milk
2 lunch solids
4 milk
6 dinner solids
7:30 milk

I buy my purees so I just send a container. When we send oatmeal, I send milk in a bowl and let them mix it up so it is fresh. Check with your day care, we have to have her name and date on the container. We also just send "lunch" right now.

@lepamplemousse: Thanks for the tips! Our daycare provider is pretty awesome, so she probably would be up for just mashing/cutting up the fruit or veggie I bring. I never even thought of snacks. It's helpful to know that they can just be the same as lunch but smaller portions.

I usually packed a whole unpeeled banana or avocado in DS lunch bag. Daycare is awesome and would mash or cut up the banana or avocado before they gave it to him. For other things I would just bring regular tupperware tubs of diced fruit, veggies or meat. I probably packed more than he could eat in a day but he's such a good eater at school. He had 2 snacks (mid morning, and mid afternoon) and 1 meal (lunch) a day at daycare. The snacks were usually same thing as the lunch but not as much food.

Once your son starts eating at daycare then you'll have a better idea how much to pack. If it's too much you can always bring it home for his dinner.

I would continue to send the same amount of milk until he shows signs of not wanting so much anymore. When he eats more solids he'll have problems finish a bottle or refusing it and you can reduce the amount or eliminate a bottle. DS went from 3 bottles to 2 at daycare within a couple of months of starting solids.

DS is 9 months old and isn't really on solids yet, but hopefully will be soon. At that time I obviously will be sending solids to daycare. This is a really stupid question, I know, but how do I send solids to daycare? What I mean is, if I am sending mashed banana do I just put it in a small tupperware-like container? How many ounces of food do you usually send for each solid feeding? How many solid feedings would there be for 8.5 hours at daycare? I assume I should continue sending the same amount of breast milk (three 5 oz bottles)?

Thanks for the help. Sorry if this is pretty basic stuff. For some reason I'm pretty freaked out about starting solids.
