@CORDUROY Exactly what others have said. Some BM is good for up to even 10 hours and you can leave it out. Also, don't heat up bottles much, and baby won't expect it. We always only heated them up enough (just under warm water) for the cream at the top to mix in, and baby never expected anything more. And that was only if they had been in the fridge or freezer--if they're at room temp it's not an issue.

Also, regarding the flow of the bottle nipple, as long as you are also breastfeeding, disregard the ages on the nipples and keep using the lowest flow nipple possible. Try Dr. Browns bottles--we loved them.

Saturday morning I tried giving a room temperature Nuk bottle at 5am. It was pumped at 10:30 and I pulled it out of the fridge when she woke at 1:30. She noticed right away that it wasn't boob and screamed. Outcome: 0mls.

DH tried the Comotomo bottle this morning while I slept in. LO had a rough night so I didn't want to ruin her sleep with a bottle. She took 10mls from the heated bottle without fighting. Then she stopped. But that's something!

DH just popped in the room to remind me not.too get excited. She always likes the newest nipple most. We'll keep working on this one.

@LaineysMom: Only the most recent nipples we've tried were medium flow. I think I have a forceful letdown (LO pops off, coughs, and milk shoots everywhere during most daytime nursing sessions). So I thought medium might be closer to my flow.

I ordered the Comotomo with slow and medium nipples. Here's hoping she likes those.

@Corduroy: you may want to try slow flow. LO couldn't handle med flow until 6 months.

@Corduroy: that's a good idea! If it isnt freshly pumped, i would still smell it before you give it to LO.

@emg86: we've always used comotomo! Best bottles!

My lo has no issue with cold milk, so I prepare bottles before bed. Both things together might be a lot of change, but maybe lo won't care?

Not sure what bottle you're using, but my LO doesn't really take a paci and we were having trouble with bottles as well. I purchased a Comotomo bottle and she loves it. I read lots of reviews on how it's a great bottle for babies who are EBF and have a hard time taking a bottle. We do a night time bottle feeding and I leave it out at room temp for a few hours to make things easier.

@LaineysMom: Ah ha - putting two and two together, I won't leave a whole bottle out. I'll try with an ounce or so.

@LaineysMom: I'm not excited about losing a bottle of breastmilk but we've wasted so much already trying to get her to take a bottle. It took me way too long to realize I shouldn't offer 3-4 oz until she actually takes a bottle. Probably about 100oz :(

Thanks ladies. I'll try cold and room temp. I assumed I would need to heat.

@Corduroy: I would be worried about if LO doesn't wake up.. Are you okay possibly losing a whole bottle of breastmilk? My LO takes cold bottles, so I just get them ready before I go to sleep just in case she wakes in the middle of the night.

Ditto @littlebug. Although personally, I never left a freshly expressed bottle of bm out for more than 4 hours at room temperature.

@Corduroy: Are you pumping enough for a bottle before you go to bed? If so, freshly expressed breastmilk can be left out at room temperature for 4-8 hours. Just leave it out so that it's ready and doesn't need to be warmed.

I'm still working on getting 3 month old LO to take a bottle. One method I haven't tried is feeding a bottle at a middle of the night feeding. LO usually wakes up around 3 or 4 and at 5. She goes back to sleep after the 5am feeding half of the time.

I'm worried she'll fully wake up in the time it takes to wake up, go downstairs, heat the bottle, and get back to her. How do you prep middle of the night bottles for minimal disruption of sleep (yours and LO's)?
