@sotofamilia: I was going to suggest this as well.

We have the same set up but we have cork flooring so we don't have to worry about things getting in any cracks. We just sweep up the mess and swiffer, if needed.

@Foodnerd81: it's really worked great for us! I mean, it looks a little goofy, because part of it sticks out where the chair is meant to go, but it's worth the convenience of being able to just wipe up after a meal!

@sotofamilia: Hmm that would work perfectly and be easier to clean!

We have a cute splat mat: http://www.amazon.com/SugarBooger-ABC-Jumbo-Splat-Mat/dp/B0016XN6ZQ I swiffer it occasionally.

@Foodnerd81: I had this same issue, and we ended up using one of those hard pieces of plastic that go under office chairs. They can be pricy - I just got the cheapie from Staples for like $30. It's been great - my LO does his thing and then we just wipe it up.

@Mae: @mrsjyw: @yerpie110: I should have said, we do have a dog too, and he helps a lot, but doesn't get everything. But yes, it does cut down on clean up a lot! The BLW book says to just pick stuff up off a clean floor or towel, but that doesn't work so well with the dog, unfortunately.

I don't have any LOs, so I don't know how practical this is, but I use these washable and waterproof puppy whelping pads.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003B3S3TS/ref=pd_aw_sims_1?pi=SL500_SS115

If you are crafty, you could make this yourself. If not $10 for these pads aren't too expensive. You could paint or iron on patches to make it not look like a dog pad.

We have hardwood also. I just swiffer (wet) it up.

Another dog owner here! Nothing lasts more than a second on the floor and well, it makes my life easier, so I let it be. I'll do a quick wipe down of the floor after meals, but that's the extent of it.

We have a dog. Which I expect will help... lol. I may also throw a towel under her chair when it is time. Easy to wash!

How do you protect the floor under your highchair? We are doing BLW, so our floor gets extra messy, though I'm fairly certain it happens with spoon feeding purees too. We also use a hook on chair on our kitchen island, so no legs to clean around, or to hold a mat down.

We have hardwood floor under the high chair, but the food gets into the tiny indents between the wood, and is a pain to clean. I've tried a plastic splat mat, but it's a pain to clean since it's loose and it can't go in the washing machine. I tried a plain blanket and that's a little better since I can just wash it every few days.

Curious what other people do and if there is a better solution. C hasn't quite gotten the hang of putting food down ON her tray-- she puts her arm out to the side then opens her hand, so lots of food hits the floor!
