@Mamaof2, this really doesn't sound like too much to me, although I would add more fruits and vegetables. I always find that fruit or veggies plus something with protein as an afternoon snack can get me through to dinner. Red pepper strips with hummus, apples with almond or peanut butter, or cottage cheese with berries are some of my favorites.

For the ladies who don't like oatmeal in the winter - I've been doing overnight oats and I love them. I use this basic recipe: http://www.katheats.com/favorite-foods/overnightoats

They're easy to prep on the weekends and they really fill me up!

@looch: Ok so I decided to try this - we grilled a bunch of chicken on sunday - so for breakfast I had grilled chicken on a roll - lets see how long I go before I am hungry

@MoonMoon: Oh man, apples actually make me more hungry! I definitely have to add some peanut butter for it to help curb my appetite.

@looch, oatmeal is great in theory....but in reality, it doesn't hold me over that long, it doesn't fill me up that much, and it's just kind of bland without a bunch of (high calorie, not necessarily ultra filling) add-ins. And i'm not touching it when it's 90 degrees outside! i hear you on that. I do like eggs/veggies/cheese for breakfast, though.

I would definitely say more protein for breakfast! I have two eggs scrambled with spinach, and a banana every morning and I am usually good until 11 or 12.

@blackbird: it's a game changer for me. I was doing oatmeal, which I like a lot, but in the heat, I can't eat that. I feel like there are so many more options if I don't limit myself to traditional Western breakfast foods.

@looch, i totally do non-breakfast food for breakfast! It's really filling. Like my brain just thinks of it as more satiety. Leftover steak is a favorite :)

For me, the more I think about what I am eating and tracking, the more I become obsessed with food.

This morning I tried something different and I ate a chicken patty for breakfast (natural chicken, seasonings, some breadcrumbs to hold it together). I ate it without any bread (forgot the roll) but I was full until lunch.

Nuts are only kind of filling for me--they're more fat than protein. And really calorie dense without the filling sensation of "more food".. I would sub some eggs and veggies for breakfast with a little cheese and add some fruit/bulk to your greek yogurt. And that greek yogurt could be doing it, too, depending on the kind. I find the plain+fruit to be more filling than the flavored ones (which give me a carb spike then fall and sometimes that cues hunger for me)

Also, to build on what @simplyfelicity: said, if you're truly hungry, an apple will sound good to you. If you're craving something because of boredom etc, it won't, that's one good way of distinguishing. Of course, it's much easier said than done to only eat when you're hungry and never other times! I struggle with that too.

I read somewhere to eat an apple when I'm hungry. It's tasty, full of fiber and water, and takes a while to eat/chew/digest. You can't overeat apples! Add some almond butter or peanut butter for fat/protein, and it can be a really filling snack.

@loveisstrange: @Mamaof2: Good idea! Our bodies will sometimes cue hunger simply because it is thirsty. The body will get water wherever it can and will sometimes crave food when not hungry because of the water in the food. To our bodies, water is water whether found in a burger or a glass of water. Now I am thirsty!

@Mamaof2: studies have shown that protein keeps you full for longer as does soup.
Protein study: control group ate high carb breakfast and experimental group ate same calories but protein.
Soup study: control group had lunch and a glass of water, experimental group had exactly the same but food processed to make into a soup.

I have no personal experience to offer though, just remember these studies

@Mamaof2: Avocado with your salad would be a start! Use olive oil for dressing. Maybe whole milk with your cereal. Fat is super important with satiety. It's also important to recognize if your hunger is actually body hunger or emotional hunger= being bored, sleepy, stressed, eating because it is mealtime, eating because something is there etc. I struggle with this for sure!

I know I eat way too much but I am starving all the time!! How do you make yourself not eat? Is it just mind over matter?

Today I ate ;
8am - coffee and Fiber One protein cereal with milk
11am - Then I had a HUGE salad with grilled chicken and a hard boiled egg
1pm - Then I ate a greek yogurt
almost 2pm - Now I am eating almonds and pumpkins seeds

I am STILL hungry!
