I didn't have a m/c but we had a lot of difficulty trying and so many people asked about when we were going to have a baby. It is so rude and such a personal question! I told one of my sister's and one of DH's brothers that we were closer with. It helped for some people to know how we were struggling and I didn't feel so alone.
Whenever anyone asked at first, I would smile and just say, "we'll see"...as time went on, I was getting really annoyed and probably rude and would just say, that's personal.

I did pretty much the same thing as @kimjsugar after both of my m/c's. Telling close family and friends really helped my healing, and then when it came time to TTC, people were much more respectful about not prying and even once I was pregnant again, they were also very understanding about our guarded happiness (in other words, they didnt go blabbing the news to everyone b/c they knew what we'd been through before).

Depends on your relationship with your siblings. We told our parents & I told my siblings. My SIL had troubles conceving so she understand our struggle. DH hasn't told his. I typically answer that question with, "we will have kids when the good lord bless us with them" then I give them a smerky smile. It doesn't really answer their question but it shuts them up :-)

@Dandelion: I can't believe people would ask you about that!!

Thanks everyone. It sounds like I shouldn't be afraid to open up to family. I guess the positive in all this is that my MIL can actually keep a secret.

@T.H.O.U.: I have not had a loss but plan on some longer spacing (min 2 1/2 years). After LO's first birthday a few months ago, we started getting questions, so I usually say something like "we have our hands full with her" or "we are busy enjoying her" right now, and change the subject.

I think I would be hesitant to share about a loss (and I am so sorry about yours) but that might be a nice way to put people off for a while? It has been working fairly well so far...

It usually depends on who's asking. If it's someone I'm not that comfortable talking to about personal issues, I'll just repond with, "oh, hopefully soon!" and leave it at that. But I've told most of my friends, close co-workers and all of our family, because to me, it's just easier telling them the truth and them not expecting me to pregnant anytime soon since we're having issues. And it's also somewhat liberating being able to talk about it to people!

We didn't hide the miscarriage from anyone. We found that talking about it really helped us, and it usually led to great conversations with people. I found a lot of people had the same experience, but were scared to talk about it. As far as TTC goes, we just say that we'll be pregnant whenever the Lord wills.

This is bugging me too. Can you believe people are asking me this...only a month after losing a baby? It seems like other people are already telling me to move on to the next one. Drives me crazy. Its none of their business anyways.

Edit: I read your post wrong...sorry! I thought you meant in reference to your mc. I had one and just didn't mention it to most people. I still think its none of their business.

Depends how close to the person I am. If we're close, I'd tell them that we tried but that we'd had a loss. If they aren't close, I'll be vague and tell them that we're pretty happy the way things are right now.

Just say when you decide something, you'll let everyone know. And then don't, of course.

I dated a guy for almost 7 years before I met my DH and and after about 2 years, people--even near strangers would constantly ask when we're going to get married, or WHY we weren't getting married, etc. His friends would ask, my friends would ask, our families would ask.

I would just tell them all, if we ever decide something, you'll be the first to know. And then we split ways. haha.

I usually lie and say something vague like "not yet". People should know better than to ask. Just today a friend asked me if I had something to share because I got friends together for brunch. I didn't respond nicely...

I told my family because we are all really close. It helped because a lot of women (some who I didn't know about) told me about their experiences with m/c and trying again. It really helped. I remember my aunt telling me that people would probably say some really insensitive things...and they did.

It's a really personal thing and I can understand why you wouldn't want to share. You could always tell people that you want to wait until LO is a bit older to try again. That way they won't be always assuming you are pregnant (which happened to me).

I lied. I just got married so I could say we wanted to enjoy marriage for awhile. You could just say you have a lot going on right now so you're waiting for things to calm down. Or say it's none of their business :)

What have you done when you had a miscarriage and get asked questions about when you are going to start TTC? People know we didn't have trouble with our first, and now that she's almost 2, the questions are coming. Obviously I just lie with strangers but with family? We only told our parents and only because it involved a D&C but none of our siblings. I'm not sure if we should tell them if it comes up.
