@pmrlady: I would say a few weeks. It was definitely exhausting, but like @catomd00: said, we would go in and gently show him how to get down on his own. Once we knew that he knew how to do it, we would let him cry it out for a bit, and that seemed to get him to go back down. Hopefully, it's short lived for you!

@pmrlady: this lasted a few days for us. I would just go in and help her lie down and say goodnight. After she figured out how to get herself back down gently she was fine. Similar thing happened when she learned to roll and crawl and walk. They're practicing! I don't think you need to slee train for it, just wait it out and she should go back to her normal sleeping again soon.

@hilsy85: what is the sleep lady shuffle? She doesn't yet sit well from standing, she kind of falls down and it's inconsistent.

@2PeasinaPod: how long did the phase last for your LO?

It's definitely a phase. LO did this when he learned how to pull to stand. As they develop and learn new skills, it's almost as if they want to "show off" those new skills, if even for only themselves. He eventually grew out of it.

I would go in and lay her back down every 5-10 minutes. Eventually she would not stand up again. She kind of knew how to lie back down but when we tried extinction she would stand there crying forever, so I felt like going in and lying her down helped. By "kind of knew" I mean, I had seen her go from standing to sitting other times but not consistently and I felt like when she was worked up maybe she didn't really have the wherewithal to figure it out... if that makes sense.

Does she know how to lie down? If so I would just do the sleep training method that you use--either go in at intervals and do checks (lay her down if you want, but not necessary), or do extinction. Or you can do the sleep lady shuffle. But I wouldn't be so concerned with lying her down every time if she knows how to do it.

Hello bees,

My 8 month old has been really great with going to sleep for naps and bedtime. Then a few days ago, she learned how to pull herself up to stand and her falling asleep has been horrendous since then.

Usually at bedtime, I would just give her the bottle after her bath, she would drift off to sleep and I just placed her in the crib and she would just continue sleeping. Last night she kept standing up and crying. I would go in to lay her back down and pat her back but as soon as I left, she stood up again and this would repeat like 20 times until she finally stayed down.

Putting her down for naps is even worse. It is taking up to an hour to get her to go to sleep even though she's rubbing her eyes and yawning. She used to fall asleep easily in the stroller but now she just wants to sit up and look around....

Anyone have any advice for this phase? I've tried staying with her and holding her down so that she doesn't stand but then she just gets mad and starts crying. If I leave, she immediately stands up in the crib. Do I just keep laying her down over and over, or is there something else I should be doing?

TIA
