@mrs. bee and @boogiebea - thank you for the feedback! i've always been so curious about how couples handle adding a 2nd or 3rd child to their home. i never thought that white noise could be so effective in blocking out a babies cries, but i'll have to try it when the time comes. thanks again!!

I agree with mrs bee. My older one never slept with a noise. We tried when he was a baby, when he had trouble sleeping. It never really worked for him. Then we sleep trained and that was that. When baby #2 came along we were worried that her crying would wake him up so we introduced white noise at almost 2. I was worried that he would not be used to it but it never bothered him. We have it loud enough that it covers up her cries.
I haven't introduced white noise for our second though (we don't plan on having any more). I wanted her to get used to sleeping through the sounds. Unlike what I did with my first - always kept super quiet when he was sleeping.
We using and old iPhone and a free white noise app as the white noise machine. Good use of an old iPhone/itouch.

white noise and lots of it. charlie and olive's rooms are right next to each other. they each have a marpac sound machine in their rooms. but if it is extra noisy, i play a free white noise app on my iphone that is super duper loud. you really can't hear the crying at all!

DD is 14 going on 15-months now, and we're starting to think about trying for a second. Just wondering if anyone here sleep trained their second child... what was your method and how successful were you? Were you able to do it without waking up your first? If we have a 2nd, they would have separate bedrooms right next to each other...
