@T.H.O.U.: Mostly because I knew my kids didn't have an allergy and they were digesting other dairy fine. I'm Asian and I can drink milk and dairy fine, but dairy sensitivity is apparently pretty common among Asians and occasionally, a full cold glass of cows milk on an empty stomach gives me a stomach ache, so I sorta figured it was something like that or whatever my husband has.

DS1 never liked almond milk when I offered some of his daddy's so I never really bothered with DS2, since DS1 weaned to milk eventually. DH and I aren't HUGE milk drinkers anyway, so it seemed like it was an issue that would work itself out over time (i.e. the kids would drink less milk over time).

@gingerbebe: I don't know why I didn't see this earlier. Thank you! I do wonder if she just has a sensitive stomach and who knows what gives her issues. I also wonder if the shots maybe contributed to an upset stomach. We did try some hemp milk this weekend and she really liked it. Is there a reason you tried to transition to WCM and not almond or soy or hemp milk or some other alternative?

So my husband has GERD and he can do all sorts of dairy but prefers not to do fresh milk and cannot digest cheese at all. He can do a small amount of cream cheese, but beyond that is a no go. Fresh milk gives him stomach pains depending on the day, so he drinks almond.

Both my boys had reflux. DS1 was pretty severe. was on a total elimination diet for DS1 for 6 months and slowly added things back. We supplemented with Nutramigen at first and then stepped up gradually to Gerber Good Start Gentle, to Similac Sensitive, to Honest Company regular dairy formula. He was weaned fully to formula at 10 months and had yogurt and Mac n cheese from 10-11 months too, so we tried the fresh milk transition at 11-ish months. He got butt-peeling horrific runs. Pediatrician said to maybe just wait and give him some time to adjust since he'd done fine with other dairy. We backed off and put him on Enfamil toddler formula until 13 months. Mixed with milk and he was transitioned with no problem at 13.5 months. Granted, DS1 wasn't a huge milk drinker and only drank 8-12oz day at that age. DS1 is almost 3 now and drinks 12-ish ounces of fresh milk a day, no issues. Dude isn't crazy about cheese, but can eat and digest it no prob.

DS2 had a less severe case of reflux but he has a more sensitive digestive system than DS1. If he gets sick or off somehow he is more likely to get the runs than DS1.

I did the elimination diet for him for 6 months too. We had him supplemented on Gerber Gentle and then moved over to Costco's formula for supplementing. Had yogurt at 8-ish months, no problem. He had a rough go after his 1 year shots. Explosive diarrhea, fever, butt peeling open wound-like rash, etc. We had been doing the milk transition at that point too, so I didn't know what it was exactly. But it took him about 2 weeks to get his life together. In the meantime we backed of WCM and put him back on 100% formula once the frozen breastmilk ran out and then mixed in Nido Kinder. Then when the formula ran out we kept him fully on Nido Kinder because we figured he was going to be like his brother. We started mixing in milk 2 weeks ago and we were at 50/50 milk and Nido with no problems until he got sick again and same deal - butt peeling runs. Soooo we had to pull back to 100% Nido again, which brings us to this week. He's turning 14 months next week, and we're still transitioning. I'm going to mix milk back into his sippy cups this week and hopefully we can have this transition done soon.

But I've accepted DS2 is more like his father and may be just a tad more sensitive to fresh milk and thus have a harder time dealing with it when he's sick or not feeling well. He eats other dairy just fine without issue, so I know it's not an allergy or intolerance. He just has a harder time digesting fresh milk sometimes.

@gotkimchi: I guess the question is, was she really ever "ok" with it before? I know early on with BF I definitely saw a correlation when I had dairy. But hypothetically the cheese should have been less upsetting on her stomach than the dairy formula.

@Anagram: Were they on the special formula then?

If she was doing ok before any chance this is just random? My daughter got "toddler diarrhea" which lasted at least 2 weeks, was totally terrible and the dr said it can just happen. We limited dairy when she had it just to rest her tummy but afterwards she could eat the same stuff no problem.

Either of my kids had an allergy, just intolerances. Blood in stool from dairy, but soy caused green poops, gas, stomach discomfort (many many nightly wake ups with crying), diarrhea, etc.

Lo1 didn't grow out of it until 2.5, LO2 outgrew earlier around 14 months

@Anagram: Thanks! Yes, we plan to transition soon probably to hemp milk but maybe almond next.

I dont know that this is a full blown allergy. I mean she's been good on the soy formula for a while and suddenly this diarrhea popped up.

Although if she's about to turn one, you might just want to trial almond or hemp or coconut milk instead? Something that doesn't have soy.

Hmm.... the only thing that jumps out at me is that if she's not tolerating the protein in dairy we'll, then it's possible she is also having trouble with the soy. MSPI includes dairy and soy since sensitivities to each commonly occur together. Have you tried alimentum or nutragimen?

Baby Girl is going to be a year next month. Early on with breastfeeding I realized she had much worse reflux when I drank milk. I cut the major sources of dairy out of my diet (milk, cheese, yogurt) but continued with baked goods, dark chocolate, etc.

Around 6 months we started to try to find a formula for her. Again the milk-based formula caused a lot of tummy pain. We put her on soy formula and it was going well. We even were able to use up some of the milk based formula (about a 20-30% ratio) to her daycare bottles from about 8-10 months off and on.

Suddenly last month right after shots she ended up with 2 really bad weeks of diarrhea. Now we also had been doing the 30% milk based formula and started introducing cheese (which she loved) and a bit or two of yogurt (which she did not love so she really didn't each much). We finally took her to the doctor who ruled out bactrerial infection via stool sample. No blood, just frothy really stinky, diarrhea. It would be ok for a day or two and then be really bad blow outs for a day or two. On and off for 2 weeks.

Where do we go from here? As of a week ago we have cut dairy out (only soy formula, no cheese/yogurt) and the stool has improved but isn't 100%. To be honest I"m not reading every little label because I dont think this is a true allergy and she doesn't get that many processed foods anyways.

Do I need to schedule testing? Do we slowly introduce things and see her limits? How do I go about this?
