Save until you are done with showers. I would then use to stock up on diapers and get any remaining item you for sure NEED. If you have a lot, I would save a few for the first couple months.

At LEAST wait until after the shower.
But you could wait until after baby is here too. We planned to perfection and had it all but somehow ended up in BRU at 4d pp anyway.

I'd wait until after Baby comes. There is so much stuff that you buy beforehand that you don't need right away and so much stuff that you don't realise that you need.

I would save them, and wait to see what you need once the baby is here.

Do you have a BRU registry? You'll be getting store rewards too, so I'd combine the gift cards and store savings for maximum savings!

Even if you get everything from your registry, I guarantee you either you or your husband will be in store frantically throwing things in a cart because no matter how well you plan, things come up. So I'd wait until after the birth and evaluate then.

Thanks guys - consensus is wait! As much as the "get things done" in me wants spend them :)

@Cole: good reminder! Our glider is one of those items, so completion discount would be nice on that!

We used ours to buy things off the registry that we put there for the completion discount (our stroller/travel system) and a few other little things we needed.

I would wait. We used ours to buy some of the pricier items we did not receive (video monitor, swing) and then for miscellaneous items after he was born (diapers, etc).

I agree about waiting until after the other showers. I would also at some point add those pricier items to a registry (even if it is after the showers are over) so that you can get your completion discount in case you can't find a better deal on them.

Beyond that I would probably use them to stock up on any necessities before baby comes and then wait until I actually need something to use the rest-- so for example I wouldn't run out and buy an exersaucer before baby is born with the gift cards in case I realize I won't want one or can get a used or hand me down version. I feel like people come out of the woodwork with that stuff sometimes!

Option two! I wouldn't buy the pricier stuff until you know everything you've gotten and are able to budget/plan it out. And you can often get better deals on diapers/wipes/formula than what they have available at the baby stores.

I would save them and re-evaluate after the next showers. You wouldn't want to buy a pricier item only to discover you have some necessities you still need to fill in.

I had my first shower this weekend, and received several gift cards. I have two other showers coming up in the next 3 weeks as well.

Would you use the gift cards to 1) buy pricier items you intended to buy and didn't put on the registry, 2) save them until after all the showers so you can buy any items on your registries that no one purchases, or 3) save at least part of them for buying diapers, wipes, formula in the first few months?

I'm usually not the type to hang on to gift cards so I'm torn over what to use them for!
