I pretty easily switched from nursing to sleep to just rocking at around 13 months. I just didn't offer the breast as an option, and did the rest of the routine the same, but with rocking instead of nursing. It would take a while for him to fall asleep, but he would and then I could put him down. The hard part was after a few months, he wouldn't stay asleep when I tranfereed, so then we did some CIO, which I wanted to avoid.

What happens if you pop him into the cot and stay with him till he goes to sleep? Miss A was nurse-to-sleep kid but once it stopped working we moved on to me staying with but ignoring her until she drifted off. We did this for a few months then she started not needing me there.

Suggestions for breaking the nurse-to-sleep habit? Baby is almost 11mo. Other people can rock him to sleep, but if I'm around he has a one-track mind.

The problem is that nursing doesn't really work any more. But he refuses to do anything else with me. The past few nights, he nurses til he's almost asleep and half latched (so I am uncomfortable). Then I unlatch him and he wakes up a bit and re-latched. Lather, rinse, repeat, cue Daddy. Sooooo... what happens if I need to put him to sleep on my own? We are on the third night in a row of this.
