@anandam: You can still control what time bedtime is, even without a rigid day schedule. Even though I don't have set times for naps or feedings during the day, bedtime is pretty strict (give or take 20-30 minutes). So even if he woke up at 9am one day, you would adjust naps accordingly, and you'd be able to put him down at a more reasonable bedtime. And now that I think about it, this exact scenario happened when we sleep trained also. He had a rough first night and he woke up at 9am the next day. So I just adjusted his day "schedule" and put him down at the usual bedtime.

@BabyTsMom: Same age! Also 7 months. We also have never had a by the clock schedule, but I just got worried about shifting the whole day later and later! Doesn't seem right for a baby to go to bed after midnight and wake up just before noon! I'm sure it won't get there, though.

@BabyTsMom: I do the same. It drives some people crazy though not to have naps at the same time everyday. I know my sister did that too and her nanny basically quit over it. It does make it tough to plan your day in advance and sign up for classes, but I like that I don't have to wake my LO and sometimes I get to sleep in too!

I always let my LO sleep in as long as he wants, during sleep training and even now. I just timed his naps from when he woke up. even now, if he wakes up late, that usually means one less nap I need to worry about! (he's 7 mo and still on three naps so if I can get a two-nap day, I'm happy). How old is your LO?

We keep wake up time the same (within a half hour window) pretty much no matter what. If he wants to go down for a nap sooner than usual that's okay but we generally always wake up at the same time.

Last night we started training LO to fall asleep in his crib instead of our arms. Anyway, we put him down drowsy when we normally would have rocked him and he did sleep eventually, but only after over an hour of crawling/climbing around his crib, talking to himself and so forth, pushing his fall-asleep time to nearly 11pm.

Usually he wakes up around 7, which seems healthy, but after staying up so late, today he slept till after 9. I wasn't sure whether to wake him or what. This must happen with all training methods, right? What do people do?
