@Adira: yeah yesterday the nap was just twenty minutes but same old story. I do appreciate your suggestions!! I guess maybe it's just normal and I need to wait for the naps to change. As they always do :)

@Zbug: Can you maybe try limiting that last nap so she might be be tired when you want her to go to bed?? I have no real advice... I think she'll eventually just drop that last nap, but it might take a while. Xander went to 2 naps around 9 months.

@Adira: we tried that but it was an epic fail. I'm not looking to sleep train - especially if she's not really even tired. I think I'm looking for a miracle solution that doesn't exist. Theoretically, she should eventually lengthen the afternoon nap, right?

@Zbug: With Xander, I tried to stick to his normal bedtime. He often wouldn't fall asleep right away, but he was good about hanging out in bed until he did, so that worked for us.

@Adira: this is exactly what's going on with us! The problem is she acts tired around 7 but won't actually sleep until 8. I think it's due to the late catnap, but she can't last all afternoon without it.

I guess maybe we just deal with a later bedtime until she hopefully lengthens her afternoon nap?

@hilsy85: thanks! 2-3-4 is what I'm aiming for. The problem is that my husband doesn't get home from work until 6, and he wouldn't get to see her during the week if she went to bed before then. He does her bath/bedtime routine, so the earliest she could go to bed is 6:30. I don't want to give up their special time together unless it becomes completely necessary. The problem is she starts to fall apart between 4-5, which is way early for bed (I think!).

The time before the transition to 2 naps is rough. Xander was staying up longer, which was pushing back his afternoon naps, but he still couldn't go long enough to do without. He often ended up having a quick nap around 5:00/5:30 and then I'd have to wake him only to put him back to bed again shortly after! It was such a pain.

That said, I didn't force the transition myself. After a while, it became clear that he was able to be awake for 3+ hours, so his naps eventually worked themselves out so that the last one was eliminated and he was down to two.

We did. 2-3-4 schedule at first, so 1st nap 2 hrs after wake, 2nd nap 3 hrs after wake from 1st, and bed 4 hrs after wake from 2nd.

I would try pushing her 2nd nap and moving up bedtime to maybe 630 or even 6

LO is 6 months, which I think seems a bit early to go to 2 naps but not sure how else to make this work. She usually has about a 1.5 hours nap in the morning from 8:30 or 9 till 10 or 10:30 (ish). This is the good part bc she used to take 3-4 catnaps a day. She's ready for her second nap around 1-1:30 but she only sleeps 45 minutes or so for this one. She ends up tired again between 4-5 and takes a short nap again, but then she's not tired again until close to 8:00 (bedtime used to be around 7). I've tried getting her to get back to sleep after that first afternoon nap, but she wakes up happy and ready to go. I wouldn't mind the later bedtime as much, but she acts tired yet fights going down. We have been just letting her play some more after our first attempt at bedtime fails. It works okay but feel like if she could just take a longer afternoon nap, bedtime would be a lot easier.

Anyone else have this happen?
