@chibee: Thanks for asking this question! I'm thinking we need to transition to NTNP too. After 9 months (or 11 cycles) I'm sick and tired of all the drama. I stopped using OPKs, I've stopped checking my ovulation calculator. I haven't even made a note of when my next period is due.

Good luck to you! I hope you're able to relax and enjoy the ride ;)

Thanks all. This is going to be hard, but I'm going to try to go this route this month, and for a while going forward. I will stop charting, and try to forget about what CD it is and if i'm close to O - ahh this sounds near impossible but wish me luck!

I just stopped paying attention and had sex with my husband when I wanted to. I didn't lay with my legs over my head, I went to sleep. After 8 months of TTC, I got pregnant the 1st month we weren't trying.

For us, NTNP meant that we had sex whenever we were in the mood, not just when I might be fertile. Obviously, I knew my cycle so I knew when I would O, but we didn't base our sex around that. From the beginning, DH made it very clear that he didn't want to feel like a "stud horse." It worked for us. I got my BFP on my second cycle.

When we went from TTC to NTNP I stopped charting. I still keep track of the number of days in my cycle and try to watch for CM so I know, just encase. The obsession is gone. It took about 2 months to wind down but I'm glad that I did.

I'm on cycle 9 so I totally feel you! This will be the first month that I'm going to stop TTC and start NTNP. Not sure how that's any different from TTC either, but I'm going to at least not "tense up" every time we BD and indirectly telling the sperm to swim fast and hard to find the egg and fertilize it.

The doctor said when we stress, we release a hormone called cortisol (sp?) which blocks certain things and sends mixed signals to our body which indicates our body is not in a good condition to house a baby. I'm a total stresser so I'm going to try and relax this month and not focus on every time we have sex = baby making. It'll be uber hard, if not impossible, but I'll try! Good luck to you!

We sort of got into this mindset especially after getting 2 terrible SAs and being told we couldn't conceive on our own. It dawned on me that no amount of effort I made would get anywhere, so I had to learn to let go. That was the month I stopped charting. You actually might stop being aware of your CD after a while, even if you think you won't. Once you stop looking at your chart and stop picking up your thermometer and stop peeing in cups or on sticks, it's not on your mind in the same way and going back actually feels like a chore.

We just quit temping and quit thinking about it. You can do it! (my cycles are kind of irregular and I didn't keep track of CM, so it may have been easier for me than you)

@chibee: it's a tough one, I had long irregular cycles so that combined with not charting and faulty OPKs made it pretty easy to stop TTC. I just had sexy time all the time and got knocked up that cycle. I don't think not TTC caused us to get pregnant, I just think it was lucky. It also took a lot of strength to not go out and buy more OPKs...
Good luck.

I don't know if this is a weird question - but how is it possible to transition from actively TTC to NTNP? How can you be so casual knowing all that you know already? How do you ignore CDs, CM - once you know, how can you un-know? For all you ladies that are NTNP - what does this mean exactly? What is your process??

I'm going through a really stressful time in my life right now and while we've unsuccessfully tried for 3 cycles, I think I need to take a step back from actively TTC until things in life calms down a bit. But I don't want to stop, so NTNP seems to be the answer, but honestly, I don't know what this means. Even without charting and using OPKs, I will inevitably be aware of what CD I'm in, thereby knowing around what day I am most fertile, and what CM I have - how can you ignore these things?
