@ladybee: So cute! I hate that M is still sick :(

Our arm out nap went fairly well! I am going to try to do an arm out one nap a day until we get back from our trip & then just go cold turkey. I am really pushing the lovey too haha so hopefully by then she will be into it!

Here is a pic. It's hard to tell but the towels are at his side. He insist on sleeping with his arms in the air.

@daniellemybelle: Hi! I've missed you too! We've had a sick little boy for awhile now so that doesn't leave time for too much Hellobee. We did hand towels under his crib sheet along his sides to make him feel cuddled still. It also appears to stop his hands from freaking out as much. We are trying to night wean so at a certain point we try one arm in, both arms in, etc. until he falls back asleep. Typically he goes down at 8 with one arm out. Wakes up at 12 and we take both arms out. Then he'll sleep until 2 or 3, we feed and he goes back down with both out. When he wakes up at 6 on the weekends we go and put an arm back in so we can get an extra hour or two. My friend at work SWEARS that one day the freak out arms just went away and his kid was amazing without a swaddle.

@ladybee: Hey lady, I've missed you! Why hand towels? When you say 70%, do you mean you go in and swaddle him at a certain point every night?

Thanks everyone! I think I am going to skip ordering yet another baby thing, haha. On a whim, I put her down for a nap one arm out & with a lovey. So far so good (that's relative because her sleep has been horrible)...

I'm totally with @Weagle! Thankfully the Merlin suits worked for us, but the transition out of them was probably just as hard as if we had just gone cold turkey! The one-arm out thing was a catastrophe.
We had 2 tough nights and some nonexistent naps, but for us, cold turkey did the trick :-)
Good luck!

We went from the Miracle Blanket to a Zipadee-Zip - and I loved it! My daughter had eczema patches on her cheeks and I got it so she couldn't scratch at it. It turned out to be the beginning of a lovey as she chewed the sleeves to soothe herself. I will likely have to get new ones for the next kid since she really chewed the crap out of those sleeves!

We went from swaddle to Halo sleep sack. We ended up just doing it when we sleep trained.

@OpinionsLikeKittens: Agreed. The first night we tried the Merlin I ended up taking her out of it around midnight and swaddling her. But then we tried again and went in to use it for a couple months before switching to the Zipadeezip.

We went from the Merlin suit (which worked for about 2 weeks then just stopped working) to a Halo sleep sack with the swaddle arms around her chest, arms out. It sucked the first night, she kept startling herself awake every hour or so. Then, she figured out how to get her hands in her mouth and it was much better. The transition from that to a regular sleep sack was seamless.

Types the mom whose baby is currently whining and crying alternately in her crib during the second attempt for an afternoon nap. Go to sleep baby!!!

We used the ZZ (and still do). I like that she can't scratch her face while she sleeps.

How big of a fail was the merlin? I thought it was a fail the first night of sleeping out of the swaddle and gave up, but in the end it really did work. We moved from swaddled in the cosleeper to crib in the Merlin suit at the same time and had two bad nights and then a million good ones. My baby was closer to 6 months though at the time so that might have helped.

I will be honest and say that in our experience (and this was based on the recommendation of Troublesome Tots), it was way easier to get her sleeping in the crib and putting herself to sleep while swaddled. Once we got that down, we switched to the Merlin and then, eventually, the Zipadeezip, but I am wary of changing too many variables all at once.

I tried one night with one arm out and he seemed to do fine. So then the next night, I did both arms out but still swaddled his middle.

we did one arm out with a swaddle sleep sack when she could find her hands to soothe herself. we started with her hands up by her face, then did one arm, then both arms with the flaps around her tummy and finally loosen it.

I say cold turkey. But I'm of the opinion that a few hard days is much preferable to a loonnngg drawn out weaning process. And I think that kids at much better at transitions than we give them credit for.

We are going to sleep train with the Ferber method in a couple weeks when LO will be 18 weeks old. (This is not a post asking whether or not we should sleep train :) ) I want her to be out of the swaddle so she can self-soothe with her hands.

Right now we use Halo sleepsacks with the swaddle. She used to sleep in her swing just fine in a normal sleepsack, but in her crib she still startles a little. I ordered the Merlin & she hated it.

At this point, I am considering A) ordering a Zipadee Zip B) trying to do the Halo swaddle with one arm out to wean her off or C) just going cold turkey. Her sleep is total crap right now, and when she sleeps in bed with me she's just in a sleeper anyway, so I am thinking we should maybe just ditch it when we sleep train.
