We were recommended to use Ibuprofin or Motrin over Tylenol (lasts better, works better).

I am rather conservative with medicine, so I chose to only give it to her on nights where she was in pain so she could sleep. And this was a compromise with DH (I would have preferred less, him more). She was generally fine during the day, but we could tell when she started to get in too much pain as she got more tired and it neared bedtime. I would say in any given teething period she probably got... 4 total doses. She was a quick teether though (except molars - those things took like two months! She got a LOT more medicine for those)

Yes to ibuprofin over tylenol. If i know teething is happening i give it before bed and then when he is due for another dose if he wakes up. Teething tablets worked well for us too!

Thank you for the responses. Those teeth are almost through, little guy had trouble eating his bottle after I picked him up and was pretty cranky as the evening went on so I have him motrin. Some trouble settling but hopefully now that he is out he'll get good baby rest. I'll still be prepared for a couple wake ups!

We do ibuprofen if he wakes up, seemingly in pain, on the second wake up.

Have you tried teething tablets? Tylenol doesn't work for us either.

Yes, Motrin is going to help your LO WAY more then Tylenol will. I wish someone told me that sooner.

I give it as often as she seems she is hurting. If she is chewing on her hand all day, she gets it before bed.

I haven't tried it yet but several Bees recommended Motrin over Tylenol for teething pain!

How do you Mommies use pain medicine when your baby is teething?

My son is 8 months old. His first two teeth seemed to come in quickly and not be that big of a deal. Now his top two teeth have been poking through for a couple of weeks. There are times he seems more bothered by it but he always has whiny moods so I don't know for sure that is the cause. There were actually a couple days he was bleeding. I give Tylenol some nights when he seems uncomfortable but it doesn't seem right to give it every night for weeks. I'm not super conservative with medicine and want to use it if it will help him but I also don't want to overdo it. He seems to sleep better when we give him Tylenol but he's not an awesome sleeper so I don't know if I can blame teething pain for his poor sleep other nights.
