@matador84: Thanks! Looks like cold turkey might be the way to go. Luckily M has already started refusing her bedtime bottle so it's not a sleep issue for us either. I would be even more stressed if she couldn't sleep without the milk bottle. I'll be grateful for that :)

12 months and did a cold turkey switch. He transitioned well. Now we just do a sippy with milk before dinner, during dinner, and offer after dinner so there is not even a bedtime sippy.

Shamelessly bumping for more input from tonight's post-a-thoners! I'm obsessed with this issue. Tried again today and no luck with milk from anything but a bottle. I've been too much of a wuss to go cold turkey but I think that might be the only way :(

LO took like 3 bottles his whole life.

We switched to cow milk at 12 months and put it in a straw cup. Around 14 months we switched to an open cup.

She's refused bottles since she was about 4 or 5 months old. She's been EBF since then. Around 6 or 7 months, we introduced the Zoli Bot and she did well drinking water from it, but would only drink milk if I nursed her. It wasn't until after she turned 1 that she would regularly drink milk from a straw cup.

She started using a regular cup around 18 months.

We stopped using a bottle since she refused it at 6 months but she's used a straw cup since. She's 16 months and we're trying to use a regular cup more often at meal time.

We ditched the bottle cold turkey at 11m. We went to sippy & straw. He's almost 12m, and when he is, it'll be only cup & straw, no more sippy. We're all about cold turkey.

We switched to a sippy cup right at one year. (We had been practicing before that, and so had daycare, so we knew she could drink from it.) We're still not anywhere close to using a real cup.

We transitioned to soy milk at 12 months. At the time he was still getting breast milk in baby bottles, and I kept the two types of milk separate. Soy milk went into a straw cup, and breast milk stayed in baby bottles. Once I was finished with my frozen stash, I had to wean him off the bottle, which was surprisingly pretty easy.

@jmarionsmith: It's good to hear that others are going through similar things! M eats pretty well so I should probably stop stressing about the milk.

@shinymama: What is it about being a mom that makes so many days full of worry and guilt? I hope this issue resolves itself for you soon :)

@jmarionsmith: He dropped bottles cold turkey at daycare last week, but has refused any milk there since. I agreed to ONLY give him a bedtime bottle at home, but I'm worried and have {secretly} been giving him a morning bottle before dropping him off. So now I'm worried and guilt-ridden!

@shinymama: my 13 month does the same thing! we've decided to not worry too much about it. we give him 6oz of cow's milk at bedtime in a bottle and offer water the rest of the day. in a few weeks we will try milk in a sippy again. he eats enough yogurt and cheese to get his dairy in.

12 months; we're in the midst of this now and it is not going well. At all. He loves water out of a sippy or straw, but refuses milk from anything except a bottle. He will test the cup first - looks at it, takes a small sip, and if it's milk he will let it dribble down his chin and then throw the cup. If it's water he will continue to drink.

@yellowbird: Thanks! I think I might have to go cold-turkey but I'm a little nervous. Also, I had always thought we would stick with straw cups, but now I feel like maybe she would do better with a sippy.

@MrsF: 12 months, but it was a struggle. We got rid of the bottle cold turkey! She drinks water from straw cups, but she'll only drink milk out of a sippy.

M is 12 months and we've switched to cows milk but she's still drinking from a bottle. She does well drinking water from a straw cup, but just a few sips here and and there throughout the day. When I give her milk in the cup instead of the bottle she makes a face and won't take more than a few sips. I'd like to be done with washing bottles but I'm wondering if the transition would be easier if I waited a little while (or maybe it would be harder).

How did your LO do with the bottle to cup transition? How old were they? Did you use a straw or a standard sippy?
