@cascademom: I thought it was really interesting too! I definitely didn't expect him to be able to see issues that won't really present themselves for several more years, but he came highly recommended and has been practicing for 100 years, so I trust he's right. (Plus, what he mentioned is exactly what my issues were, so d'oh! Sounds like LO is in for lots of dental work!)

DD had hers cleaned a few months ago (at 2.5) and she did really well! She really loves our dentist and all the hygienists. Her teeth are great but she's obsessive about brushing them.

DS had to have a baby tooth pulled (5 years old) because the adult tooth was coming in and there wasn't room for it. He has a small mouth and huge adult teeth. He's really going to need braces :bummed: otherwise, his teeth are doing well. No cavities yet.

We'll probably start taking DD2 at 12 months. I feel like my older LO's do so well with the dentist because we started taking them early on (and the staff at our dentists office are so great with kids).

@Mrs Green Grass: good to know! Our ped didn't really say anything about it, but the info sheet they give at the 12-month well visit said to consider scheduling a dental exam. I don't think they really push it until later but I figure it will be a good opportunity to get tips on how to get her to brush her teeth better (ha, right) and ask whether it's worrisome that she has gotten a bunch of teeth on the left side but not the matching ones on the right...

@yoursilverlining: Wow, that's interesting. When I take LO to our dentist for a through checkup, I wonder if he'll note similar things since my teeth are far from stellar. I just know that one of my kids is going to have teeth problem like me.

@cascademom: He said she has a hereditary overbite and something else that he thought was hereditary too, and the spaces between her teeth are OK for baby teeth, but might be a problem for adult teeth (which is exactly what my problems were – too many teeth, too small of mouth).

@yoursilverlining: How can they tell braces that young when permanent teeth haven't come in yet?

LO had his first dental appointment at his preschool at 2.5 years old. It was covered by our insurance. He had a good checkup, nothing of note. I was relieved since I have really bad teeth and was hoping that he wouldn't inherit them.

It went really well (I was very surprised by how well it went). LO is very motivated to be a “big helper”, and motivated to do whatever it takes to get stickers, so once she was given a task to “help” the hygienist with and promised a sticker, so did whatever they asked. They ended up doing a full cleaning and put sealants on her teeth since she just chilled there and sat perfectly still lol

The dentist did say she will need braces, which isn’t a surprise since my teeth were jacked when I was little and I had a LOT of work done. I was hoping LO lucked out and got DH’s teeth, but sounds like no dice on that one.

Xander just had his first a month ago at 2 years. It was BAD. As soon as his name was called, he knew he was in a doctor-like office and started resisting and crying. Cried through the whole appointment and screamed and fought when the dentist checked his teeth. Not looking forward to the next one... :bummed:

Ours went really well for the first time. They wait to see how the kids are doing before deciding whether they will get a cleaning the first time and D was great! But of course they said they can already tell he'll need braces...great! (His teeth are very close together which means small mouth...both parents had braces, me twice.)

@purplepeony - Our ped doesn't recommend until two, so you are ahead of the game out here...but I do know of peds who recommend at 1.

Still waiting for her first one! I called when she was about 14 months old to schedule it and apparently this dentist is crazy popular and it takes 4 months to get in! She'll have her first checkup just after she turns 18 months...a bit later than the recommendation, but I tried!

@regberadaisy: Now that DS has his 6 yr molars they are going to do sealants on his molars - your DD has a few years to go but that should help her down the road!

Both kid's teeth are looking good - no cavities!

We took C in for her 3 year checkup in February. It went well! We take her to a pediatric dentist and his office is super fun. She likes it and they let her "help" by holding stuff for them.

DD1 just got back from her 3 (!!!) year check up. Everything looks good but the dentist said because of how deep the crevices of her molars are to stay away from gummy candies. If she does have any to brush immediately after.

She was doing really well until the big burly male trainee came in and scared her! LOL

Next check up in 6m!
