My 1st month was tough. Aside from just adjusting to a newborn, my MIL decided to stay in town the whole month my husband was on paternity leave and it totally ruined what I envisioned our month off together being. My second month was better after she left but I still didn't do much out of the house..I was trying to keep her away from a lot of kids the first 2 months per my Pediatricians recommendation and most my friends have kids so it was a little isolating. The next 2 months I have off I am looking forward to little vacations and going out more with her before going back to work.

i call it a dark period in my life. i was way too high strung, it was the middle of winter and we couldn't get out, and i was obsessed with LO's sleep "habits". i really hope it's different this time around.

With LO1, it was really tough. He was horribly colicky and cried from about 11am until 10pm. I thought I was going to go out of my mind. He started to have more good days than bad in the last 3 weeks of my leave, and I returned at 12 weeks, just before Christmas. So while the days were long, the weeks were short and it flew by.

I had a tough transition back to work because he just started to get better with the colic and was starting to have more good days than bad.

I'm lucky because dh had a longer paternity leave than I had maternity leave. I went back to work at 5 weeks and he went back at 6 weeks. So during those early weeks, I wasn't at it alone. To be honest, my maternity leave was kind of a blur. I don't remember much!

E: stressful and overwhelming. She was in the nicu for a week, had reflux, had pumping issues....

T: super mellow and chill. I am far more relaxed this time, too.

The first 2 months were a challenge for me. It took me a long time to really bond with Xander and I felt a lot of anxiety and resentment in the very beginning. And then the last 4 weeks were really hard because I felt like I was JUST getting to know him and love him and soon we were going to be separated! There were a lot of held naps and crying.

Maternity leave for #2 was a LOT easier! I enjoyed all of it and it went by too quickly.

LO 1 didn't like napping a lot so I was always tired during my first maternity leave! She was pretty needy during the day and I struggled with breastfeeding/and other FTM stuff so it was a little stressful.

LO 2 was asleep all the time and LO 2 went to daycare PT so I thought my maternity leave was really relaxing. I watched a ton of TV and did stuff around the house. I just felt so much calmer the second time around.

The first month or so was so very challenging in terms of healing, nursing, and never sleeping.

After that, her sleep started to regulate, I healed up, and we found more of a rhythm with nursing. The last month was pretty nice when we could go out and explore. Being stuck at home at the beginning really hurt my mental state in general.

I went back to work when she was just shy of 3 months old, so it was all pretty short lived. I remember thinking that we just finally got a handle of things and it was all over. Once I got into my groove at work, though, I was happy overall.
