I had a mixed bag. First L&D nurse was obviously new.. she was older but I could just tell by the way the other staff (and doctors) spoke to her that she didn't have much experience. Oh that and it took her 3 blown veins to start my hep-loc... awful.

When her shift ended we were blessed with the most incredible nurse with an awesome Ukranian accent. She was a 'straight-shooter' and told me exactly what I needed to do/hear, all while being super encouraging and empowering. She was there through my entire pushing stage/delivery and was so awesome the whole time. I delivered late in the evening and they were short on L&D nurses so my super nurse was shuffled away to another delivery. Then things sort of fell apart again... they never assigned me a new nurse and I just sort of fell off their radar. I was so blissed out I didn't really notice but it turns out I went without liquids, ice (!!! big mistake), and meds for about 8 hours. When a nurse finally came in she noticed that I hadn't peed yet-- although my epidural had long worn off, the nerves to my bladder hadn't woken up yet so I had zero urge. I was totally distended and had to be re-catheterized which was awful. Plus I'm pretty sure my lady-parts recovery was hindered by the swelling/lack of ice but at the time I had nothing to compare to so I thought it was normal.

My L&D nurse was amazing! Let me drink as much water as I wanted, walk around, change positions, told me the other 8 women in L&D had been there longer with less progress, and helped me figure out pushing! (I had a 4 hour L&D)
My PP day nurse was an actual angel from Heaven who filled baby diapers with crushed ice for my cooch. I cried when I said goodbye to her.
The night nurse was a nasty troll who kept yelling at me to send my baby to the nursery. Did not like her.

First L&D nurse was awful, second shift nurse was much, much better. Postpartum nurses were hit or miss--I had one amazing one, and 2 so-so nurses. And the same in the nursery--one awful one, and one good one (LO was taken to the nursery because her jaundice levels were high and she had to spend 24 hours under the lights).

I probably should have formally complained about the one bad nursery nurse--she acted SO put out when I came every 2-3 hours to feed LO. She told me several times she just wanted to give formula (after I'd told her I was trying to BF). She made me cry....I definitely should have followed up on it. Every time I would go in there, she would huff and sigh and tell me there was no room for me to BF. But then the other shift nurse would be SO AWESOME and would bring LO to ME every 2 hours for me to feed in my room. The difference was night and day.

My original L&D nurse was great and even stayed to help deliver after her replacement came in (who was also not bad). The PP nurses were meh at best - not very helpful and super slow at responding to requests.

The PP nurses were good, too.

I loved my L&D nurses, both of them. They stayed with me and held my hand the entire time and were wonderful. My PP nurses were great, but my overnight nurse really went above and beyond both nights and I will forever be grateful to her. I wouldn't have gotten through that second night of frenzy feeding without her constantly telling me that it was okay and it meant that my milk was coming in.

The L&D nurses were fabulous. I honestly loved them and I spent a lot of time there.

LO had to spend a week in the special care nursery (not technically a NICU, but close) and it was staffed by an extra L&D nurse. I was not a fan of all of them. I realize it wasn't the most exciting to be in there with just him, but that doesn't mean you should be falling asleep at the desk. (This was just one. I was going to report it if she was in charge of LO again, but he was discharged the next day. I still think I should have said something.)

For LO1, they were really great, but they came into the room all the time! Too much!

For LO2, I gave birth in a different country and barely saw them, so I don't know! I even had a do not disturb sign to put on the door at night, which I did, since we weren't having any issues.

I had a long induction/labor, so I had a lot of nurses - a new one every 12 hrs and I don't think I ever had the same one twice. I had no complaints about the L&D nurses, they were all nice and helpful. The PP nurses were very hit or miss though. My first one was awesome, the next one was OK, and the third one made me cry.

My L&D nurses were fine and caring, but not particularily helpful (in telling me how to push and positions and so on). My PP nurse was awesome. She took such good care of me and knew exactly when to push me to walk and shower (after c-sec), that I recovered very quickly.

The midwife I had during L & D was not great. SUPER matter of fact, not comforting or supportive. Some people may have loved her manner, I did not. She was with me from start to finish though, I suppose it was nice to have a familiar face. PP nurses and LCs were generally fine, no one stands out but I felt supported and pretty happy the whole way through...I was only in hospital about 36 hours - the discharge midwives that came to my house to check on us were great!

My nurses during labor were SO awesome - I wrote a letter to the charge nurse and the nurse manager to tell them how fantastic they were. Unfortunately they got pulled and then their shift ended before shit got real, so the nurse I had during delivery was good, but not great. I think i would have stayed much more calm if I'd had the original 2. My nurse when I first got to maternity was kind of awful. But after that they were great.

They were great. My entire hospital experience was great. The only complaint I had was that LO was very obviously hungry and hangry and one nurse asked if I wanted them to give her a bottle of formula and so I asked them to supplement with formula because I had nothing to feed her. They took her to the nursery where I assumed they fed her so I could get some sleep for a couple of hours but they brought her back and told me to try bf again - they hadn't given her any formula. Wtf, I get bf is good, but bottom line is the infant was hungry.

I had hoped for a natural birth, but had it turn into a long medical ordeal. Unrelated, I had a lot of pain during vaginal exams, just due to how I'm shaped, or something. Also I'm very vocal so I was always clear about 'hey this hurts like hell but do what you need to do, I'm ok!'

So I had a nurse come in, witness this, and then tell me that I was 'lucky' that I hadn't gotten to labor without an epidural (after having done so for 24 hours) because I 'clearly couldn't handle it'. That bitch. I just turned my face to the wall and cried. I made a very angry complaint about her afterwards, and I hope she was disciplined.

I didn't have much interaction with nurses because the midwives were my attending care-people, but I did have one nurse who tracked along with me. She was the one who ended up delivering K, because no one else made it in time! She was incredible - and even came back after her shift was over to check on me.

Our L&D and recovery nurses were the same. The day time nurse was great (she was there for the beginning of my labor), but the night nurse (there for pushing) was kind of odd. I remember having issues with breast feeding in the hospital and asking her for advice on something and while she was mostly helpful, at one point she said rather harshly "You're the mom now, it's up to you." It made me feel so stupid :(

I had a longer delivery, my first nurse I had from 7 am to 7 pm was a dream, then my second nurse (the one who actually helped try to deliver) was a nightmare, so much that my doctor complained about her to the hospital and how disrespectful she was. All my PP were decent, LO was in the NICU so we really didn't form much of a relationship with any of them since we were there most of the time.

L&D nurses were amazing. There were 3 or 4 shift changes so I met a lot and sometimes student nurses helping too. My water broke and soaked one. I felt bad but her partner was laughing so hard and told me not to worry, it's all part of the job and a good lesson to learn not to stand in the line of fire during practice pushes.

There were fantastic PP nurses in the maternity ward who knew exactly what I needed/wanted before I even asked and loaded me up with all kinds of goodies and freebies to make recovery easier. Except one PP nurse who was very stingy with everything, including numbing cream, PP ice packs, things that make it more comfortable. So that rubbed me the wrong way.

Awful. Just awful. The triage nurse actually came to my recovery room and apologized for calling me stupid and telling me I would never deliver unmedicated. Maybe they were having a bad day because they were busy. One nurse made DH burst into tears which I have never seen.

There was one angel that let me sleep for 4 hours (through a scheduled feeding) because LO didn't lose any weight. I had been up for over 65 hours at that point and I could have kissed that woman.

The nurse I disliked during my PP stay with LO 1 was amazing for LO 2.

L&D nurses were good, overall. One was terrible at getting my IV in but other than that they were all pleasant. My delivery was quick.

PP nurses were ok, at best. One in particular was an annoying bitch and I complained about her in person and in the follow up survey. Ugh. She was just very condescending in speech/tone and seemed like she hated her job. My milk hadn't come in and she would say things like "Your baby is starving!!" I only stayed 1 night and LOs weight obviously dropped after birth but not to the point where I or the Ped was concerned. She was also super rude to the student-nurse she was training and just rubbed me the wrong way.
