@Rubies: so crazy, I wonder why giving birth would do that!

It sounds like it is a bit of a crap shoot whether it returns to normal pp, but I guess I shouldn't get my hopes up!

@lamariniere: it will be interesting to see what happens this time around...I'm encouraged by the fact you didn't need to change the first time!

I also wear contacts and I remember going to the eye doctor when I was about 4 months pregnant with my 1st. She noticed my vision had changed slightly, but didn't want to change my prescription in case it was a pregnancy-related change. I ended up not needing to change prescriptions after the pregnancy.

I'm going to see a new eye doctor next week now that I'm pregnant again and also need more contacts. I feel like my vision is about the same, but I work much more intensely on a computer now than I did before.

My eyesight was terrible before pregnancy and got much worse post partum. My eye doctor said that sight changes in pregnancy are fairly common, and they often correct themselves. Since I was nearly a year pp when I had my eyes checked, he said the new downhill sight change was here to stay.

Pregnancy and giving birth ruined my eyes. Literally, the evening after I gave birth, I noticed a significance difference in my eyesight. A few months later, I got my eyes checked and sure enough, they had worsened. Now that I'm pregnant again, I can tell they are getting drier (again) and my vision isn't as sharp.

@Pirouette: i heard that it's not recommended to get lasik until after your pregnancy because of the effects that pregnancy can have on your eyes. too bad i didn't know that back when i did it! so if i do get lasik again, it will have to be until we're sure we're 100% done with kids.

@mrs. wagon: oh wow, that sounds terrible! it's amazing to me that something good for baby like BFing can have such a poor effect on your eyes.

@Mrs. High Heels: If my eyes do get worse permanently, and with each pregnancy, i will definitely be looking into lasik after we're done having kids!

my eyes are terrible now! i got lasik 7 years ago, and i think pregnancy really did a number on it. i'm probably going to have to get another round of lasik, but am holding out as long as i can. i should really schedule an appointment with the optometrist to see how bad they really are. i'm still able to drive and see road signs though.

@Pirouette: never saw (hah) any problems with my first, but I only produced milk for 7 months with him. When I hit about 8 months I ran into the dry eye problems! My opthamologist is mom to 2 young ones as well, and breastfed as well, and she was experiencing the same thing as I did. I have like six kinds of drops now :( and my eyes get so tired every day. I have to start taking fish oil and doing hot compresses on my eyes!

My eyesight got worse with both pregnancies! Then after pumping for a year, I was diagnosed with severe dry eye! After I wean from the pump I'm going to start with restaysis... so sad. My body is breaking down and getting old, and my eyes are definitely taking a big hit!

I didn't notice my vision changing, but when I got my eyes checked at about 9 months pp, my astigmatism had gotten worse. My glasses from pre-pregnancy are still fine, but I'm having a hell of a time finding contacts that work.

@ladybee: my eyes are definitely drier, and i think it's contributing to the headaches i've been getting. I'm pretty sure i'll be switching to glasses more often over the next few months. i really hope your OB is right!

@kiddosc: that's what i was thinking, maybe i'd order a few months. I'm sure i won't wear them much if at all when i'm on mat leave anyway.

Ugh, I was really hoping more of you would say it returned to normal pp! :(

My eyesight got worse in pregnancy and has stayed that way. I recently went to the eye doctor. I asked her about pregnancy and eyesight. She mentioned that it changes prescription. I also asked about getting pregnant again and coming in for an appointment. She said to come in pregnant.

On my vision changes, one eye improved contacts wise while one one got worse in glasses. This was after two years of not seeing my eye doctor and fearing retinal tears. I had them right after we got married in both eyes. This recent appointment, I had no tears!

My eyesight got worse during pregnancy and has stayed that way. My optometrist said that it's due to hormonal changes and that it can go back after pregnancy, can be effected by breastfeeding and sometimes doesn't return to the prepregnancy normal. I would get new contacts, but maybe not a whole year's worth.

I'm still early in my pregnancy, but I'm assuming the worsening vision could be due to blood flow changes? This could effect the pressure in your eyes I'd think... I hope my eyes don't get worse! My vision is a pain already!

I wear contacts, but my eyesight (prepreg) isn't that bad. My prescription isn't very strong and i really wear them for distance more than anything. The past few weeks, i've noticed that even with my contacts, my distance vision is not what it was pre-pregnancy. It's not terrible, but i can't read far away signs the way i could a few weeks ago.

I've read a few times that pregnancy affects your vision (what doesn't it affect?!) and that often, it returns to normal post partum. I'm going to run out of contacts during my third tri but don't know when i should plan on going back to the eye doctor to get my new prescription. I'm just wondering what your experience was like!
