Also agree that hanging things from the wall would make an enormous difference. If you don't want to commit pre-nursery, using paint samples to paint blank canvases that you can get at Michael's or HomeGoods is a cheap/easy option that you can replace later with zero guilt. It's literally just blocks of color sitting on your wall but it looks nice and is way less commitment than painting the whole room.

@T.H.O.U.: Was just commenting a glider or overstuffed chair would be perfect for that corner and see you've suggested the same! Would be useful for either room purpose.

I'd try to play with whitespace: a plant, a couple of picture frames and a nice lamp would be nice.

If possible, I would detach the left hand side of your L-shaped desk (I assume its just a small straight desk that can be moved). Can you fit it as an extension to the right-hand side? It doesn't seem like its being used right now anyway and freeing up more of the left corner would open up more possibilities.

Alternatively, I would leave the desk as is, but tuck a crib next to it and throw a changing pad over the leftside of the desk and use it for a changing table!

I think pictures or something would make the room nicer - like one large abstract canvas in soothing blue/water tones (probably something you could DIY) to make the room feel bigger, airy, and calmer. Or you could do one big piece of shelving or a mantle on that wall and put stuff on it to decorate or use for storage/books.

1. Paint
2. Roman shade in a fun/colorful pattern
3. Two or three big prints on the empty wall above the desk
4. A shelf on the back wall that can be removed if you need to add a crib
5. Rug

What about going ahead and getting a rocker/glider arm chair to put in that corner?

Also, a rug?

Something tall or a big picture on the wall on the left side of the desk. Right now the balance is all the things on the right side.

So this is our office and it needs help. What would you do in here? We don't want to add more furniture because this room may need to double as a nursery if we foster a tiny baby and we will need to squeeze in a crib.

It is a total blank slate. Any ideas?
