@Cherrybee: Yah they're def both on the side of good! They've been forced into teamups though, and they don't really get along that well (in the comics and on the various TV shows). They're kind of the Odd Couple of superhero teamups!

Hmm..... I guess its like when you play someone at a game or challenge them to a race. You want to win and want them to lose - but you are also enjoying playing the game with them. (This is a poor example - Charlie isn't going to buy it, is he?).

But I don't think Wolverine and Spider Man would be frenemies because they're both on the side of good, right? But Wolverine is a loner so they wouldn't be friends either - more like colleagues! (This is a weird conversion!).

My son asked if Spider-Man and Wolverine were friends, and I jokingly said that they were more like frenemies. Then he started asking me over and over what a frenemy is, and none of my definitions really satisfied him.

I guess he's having trouble understanding how someone can be both a friend and an enemy at the same time! He kept asking me about it, and so I finally dug up this video on YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13fUB_RLFJg

Those are more examples though, and not really a definition.

How would you explain frenemies to a five year old?
