@winniebee: have you thought about the toddler clock? I'm thinking about getting it for B. They are supposed to stay in their room until the light is green.

@winniebee: He is 29 months, though. DD1 was much younger at the time. DD2 is 22 months now and started skipping naps a few months ago already so it's just normal to me that kids do not nap!

Have you tried instituting quiet time instead? I've found that quiet time is very restorative for their bodies, too, and it would give you some downtime!

@Andrea: the problem is he will only sleep 11 overnight. I've tried super early bed time and it doesn't make a difference!

DD1 stopped napping at 15 months so she would often fall asleep in the car on the way home from daycare. I just let her sleep for a bit and then woke her up for dinner. Then she would get a bath and zzzz again. It was fine since she was asleep by 6 pm so she would get 12-13 hours of overnight sleep. It wasn't an option to pick her up earlier since I was working FT.

I spoke too soon. T did nap today when we got home but only from 3-420 because f coughing. It's ok though he can go to bed on time. I'm not sure this is the answer every day but it worked for today when I knew he had a cold and couldn't miss a nap.

@winniebee: think they might be willing to put a white noise machine by him to help him sleep? We bring this one to daycare, its pretty cheap, it can plug in or operate by battery:

@Seattlemom: they play soft music but no white noise. he uses white noise at home.

@BabyBoecksMom: how long was it before W napped at school?

I tried picking him up early today - 1:30 and we were home at 1:50. He got a show and then we had a snack and read books and he delayed and was acting bezerk. It's now 2:50 and he still hasn't napped and I'm supposed to be on modified bed rest and I not only rested an hour less but he still won't nap. This is seriously wreaking havoc on my life.

You could plan to do a car nap after his school days. As in, just drive around until he falls asleep.

Does he use white noise at home? My LO (17mo) recently transitioned to naping on a mat on the floor (instead of crib) at daycare and they still put his white noise next to him. I think it def helps him fall asleep.

Our daughter's bedtime is officially 8, but she's often not in bed until 830, and asleep by 9 at the latest (I know, late, but in our community, that's early!). We're up at 6:30. and wake her up by 7:15 at the lastest for daycare at 8.
Before we moved here a year ago, her nap time was 1. Our daycare puts the kids down at 11:30, so we adjusted her naptime at home so we were consistent as much as possible. that being said, she fights both us and them on occasion.
When she doesn't nap, we avoid social events in the evening, try to put her down earlier, and have an longer bath sometimes. Nothing really works, so I'm also curious what other moms find works.

ETA: He is in his bed at 8 and asleep at 8:30 on normal nights and up at 6:30, sometimes 7. On no nap days he's asleep by 7:30....and up at 6:30 (have tried putting him down earlier like 7 but he just gets up at 6).

@tororojo: @prettylizy: you know I haven't tried to put him down when we get home - mainly because on normal nap days he takes 30 mins to fall asleep (he's just not the type of kid who will zonk out). One day I did take him to my bed and we watched cartoons on the iPad and I thought he was going to pass out but didn't! I could try getting him at like 245 and get home by 3 and try to nap him right away....but he probably wouldn't be asleep until 3:45...hmm.

@BabyBoecksMom: lol I just don't think he would make the connection in the heat of the moment at school. I mean he does lay on his mat for 45-1 he at school but just does not sleep. I thought he would start taking a short nap there once he got into the swing of things there but that doesn't seem to be happening.

Yikes, I don't know what I'd do in that situation. If he stays awake when you get home would he go down for a nap? I'd try to get a least a little sleep when he gets home, but I don't think he's going to nap at school if he hasn't gotten into it yet.

Oh that sounds miserable, but I can commiserate. W did the same thing but it took her a long time to get over it. I hate to say it, but is there any way you can bribe him to get him to nap? Like, tell him "if you be good and take a nap today, we'll go do X as soon as I pick you up"?

Could you keep him up on the way home and put him down for a nap when you get there? Or maybe pick him up a little early to do it if you think 3:15 is too late? I'm in a similar situation- DD goes 2 days a week from 9-2 and is the only kid in her class that doesn't nap, but I just put her down when we get home. But she gets out an hour earlier so it's a little different. She normally naps at 1:30 when we're home during the day and on school (really mom's day out) days more like 2:15-2:45ish is when she goes down. I usually feed her goldfish or something while driving home (about 10 mins) to make sure she stays awake.

T is 29 months and doesn't nap when he goes to school (9-3 two days). They try and he's the only kid in the class who doesn't nap. He does NOT listen to me when we leave school (runs away won't hold my hand, throws himself on the ground when we get to the car) and yawns the whole way home. And sometimes falls asleep on our 10 min drive home. In which case I let him sleep for however long he wants (usually only 45 mins-hr). If he doesn't car nap, usually does fine until dinner time and then is a disaster. We put him down early when he doesn't nap, but he will only sleep 11 hours (as opposed to 10). The next day he often will take a longer nap and usually one day on the weekend will take a super long nap (for him, over 2 hours is super long).

I had a feeling he may not nap at school since they do nap earlier than he prefers (they put the kids down at 1230 and at home he goes in his bed at 1 or 115). they sleep on mats there but he did sleep on a mat at his prior school 4 months ago. Half days are an option but I would have to send him 5 days which I don't want to do since I SAH. And I don't want to pull him from school entirely because he absolutely loves it. And we are having another baby in the next 4-7 weeks.

We have had some nap issues at home the past few months as well - I think primarily due to molars but who really knows why. So I'm not sure he would be napping every day at home either.

A few questions - would you let the car nap happen? Would you push for half days at school but maybe do 3 days? See if he can nap later? Let it go?
