I personally think alcohol is not something one should consume while pregnant, because there is no definitive answer that it's ok. We went to lunch for a friend's birthday and the server brought a sample of a new wine, both I and the other pregnant friend took a sip to give it a try. It was maybe 1/2 a sip at most. Babies have been born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) from just a few sips of alcohol. I worked with a 6 year old with FAS a few years ago and saw the serious, life long affects that is has. Why chance it? </p> <p>I did not drink at all while we were TTC or at all during my pregnancy. After 1/4 or 1/2 glass I was done and passed it along to my husband. </p> <p>The big thing that bothers me is smoking while pregnant- this is a typically a daily event, not once or twice a week. But again, it isn't my business what another woman does to her body. I made tons of decisions while I was pg; I was going to cloth diaper, cosleep, breastfeed, etc. Well I hate cloth diapering and hated cosleeping! Lol just wasn't for me personally. I have learned that ideas change drastically once you have one. </p> <p>As for drinking, I totally drank in my 2-3 tris. My mw encouraged it to help me relax, and sleep! I had 2 glasses of wine at Christmas, 30 weeks along, I had wine at other times too. I don't regret it. Having a baby is such an incredibly personal decision, from what you eat, to how you deliver, to what you diaper with, so I don't think its any of my business the decisions another woman makes. I drank wine during pregnancy (I was slightly neurotic about measuring in order to avoid consuming more than one unit) and I found it helped me relax, especially during those later weeks (and kept my blood pressure down).</p> <p>Also, things have changed since I had my DD (and yes, she's only 4 months)-wasn't there a study that came out recently that said there is no risk of FAS in babies whose mothers were light to moderate drinkers during pregnany? I'd be a little surprised that she felt comfortable doing it in public, but not surprised that she was drinking. I've had a glass of wine now and then during my pregnancy, so I can't judge. My husband is English so luckily he never worried when I had the occasional glass of wine - which I did maybe 5 or 6 times during my entire pregnancy -- all in the second and third trimester.</p> <p>Now, had I seen the women drink several glasses or wine or take a tequila shot? Yeah, maybe I would be concerned. But I'm still not sure that I would say something, honestly.</p> <p>I hate that pregnant women have to feel like their every action is being policed by others.
