I bought the Medela Storage Solution since I EP and it was getting difficult to manage all of the milk. I make sure to label one lid from each pumping session with the special lids. When it's time to feed DD we pull from the oldest milk to make her bottle.

@MrsCB: You can do what I did and just get a dry-erase marker. I write directly on the bottles and then just wipe/wash it off later.

I never even labeled things. I just would put the fresh in the back of the fridge and make sure we were pulling the oldest out to give to her, which would be at the front. It was never older than three days old.

Thanks guys! I just realized we have a couple bottle systems where I can pump directly into them. So I guess I'll do that and then label them. Now I just have to decide if I want to go with the cute write on labels for $20, or $2 tape...haha.

I stored in bottles (pumped into bottles) and would write the date on them. Then when we wanted to give Xander a bottle, I would make up a bottle for him using the oldest milk (because sometimes I needed to mix multiple days to have one bottle).

I didn't give too many bottles while on maternity leave (I was super lazy), but when I pump I store the milk in the back of the fridge in the tubes I pumped into. I use the skinny 2.5 oz bottles to pump into/store, but condensing a pumping session into the larger bottles that come with the pump should be good. I'd pour the smaller amounts into my son's bottles when it was time to eat. ETA: This takes extra time because I have to swirl the milk in the tube to get the fat off the sides.

If you plan to have several different days worth of milk stored in the fridge at the same time, I'd label each bottle with a date. I just wrote on a piece of tape and stuck it on the bottle. Personally, I wouldn't mix Mondays pumped milk into the same storage bottle as Tuesdays, because that takes a day off of the life of Tues milk.

Yep put it in bottles already portioned out. If you store all together them pour you will have trouble because the milk settles in layers with the fat rising to the top. You should label them so you know what day it's from. I just use painters tape and a sharpie :)

While I'm on maternity leave I plan to pump a couple times and day have DH feed DS a bottle ~1x/day in order to make sure he'll take a bottle when it's time to go to daycare.

I'm wondering what would be the best way to store the bm? I'm not worried about building up a stash, I'm assuming the expressed milk will get used the same day or within a couple days. It seems like a waste to pump into a bag if I'm not going to freeze it. Should I put it right in individual bottles? Or should I put it all in one container and them portion out to bottles as we go along? Also, should I be dating/labeling the milk so we know when it came from?

I guess labeling could be difficult if it's not individualized. Or does it not matter, and just use first in/first out?

#stupidFTM questions....
