We flew with LO when she was less than a month adjusted, I think 10 weeks actual. Which was well before her shots. She did fine. I got a cold, but that's not unusual for me when I travel. I don't know how I'd feel with a toddler in tow as well.

We did our first flight art 6w. It was a breeze. The earlier the better I say! I'd fly as early as 4 weeks personally.

@ineebee: my toddler most definitely wasn't one of those "take everywhere and she will just sleep" infants I hear about- fingers crossed this one will be!- but still I figure that young at least they don't want to be crawling around and stuff. When C was that little if she had a boob in her mouth she was generally ok...

I flew with a 9-week-old, and it was great. He slept and nursed most of the time. Then again, it was a 1.5-hour flight. But at that age, he was just so portable and slept anywhere. I was MOH at a wedding, and I brought him along to everything and he just slept!

@KayKay: yeah if it was urgent I know we *could* do earlier but this is more like, the sooner the better but I'm not pushing it. And it's nice to hear the move wasn't too bad. We are moving at some point in the next six months, either to a nearby suburb or cross country.

We flew with C at almost 5 months for Christmas and it wasn't too bad, but we didn't have any reason to go earlier.

I'd do it anytime 2 months or later for something relatively elective like that. I'd consider earlier if it were for something urgent (e.g., funeral for close family/friend, etc).

And I've moved cross-country with toddler + 20 weeks pregnant and then again with 3 year old + 8m old. It's not too bad, as far as moving goes ;)

Our babies will be 2.5 months old when they fly home for Christmas. Before the babies arrived, I was planning on having 2 month olds flying (if they came on their due date... as you know, they didn't ;)

Good question, though. We will be flying across the country when I find a new job on the east coast next year and we might be flying (or driving across the country).

We are going to Disney in March, and the baby will be about ten weeks old. I have flown with DS#2 when he was about 10 weeks old, it was super easy and I felt better bc he had some shots. I just nurse and leave the cover over the baby's head to keep germs at bay. :)

I'd say three months. I'd know what kind of baby I had and how big sis was handling things. Baby would have shots. I'd be more in the swing of things. It would be a little nicer weather, so hopefully less likely to have weather delays and excessive airport time.

What is the youngest you would feel comfortable taking a cross country trip with an infant? Also, a toddler would be with you.

We are potentially looking at a trip to check out a possible location move for DH's job and they would fly the family out and put us up somewhere to get a feel for the area. Which, last year, would have been awesome, but I'm due with our second baby in mid December. So I am thinking of the earliest we could comfortably do it.

I realize people fly with days old babies when they have to, but for an optional trip, how early would you want to? I'm thinking at least 2 months? She'd have some shots by then at least. And that would be towards the end of winter here- great to go someplace warm, but also prime cold and flu season. Toddler would be 2.5 then, we'd be flying together and I would insist they pay for a seat for the baby. Possibly MIL could join us for part of the trip to help while dh has to work.

I won't even get into the stress that the idea of moving cross country with a toddler and infant is causing me!
