I totally freaked out about this until about a year after Wagon Jr. was born!!! But honestly it's no big deal. During diaper changes we would just push back the skin (kind of the mound around the penis) so that the penis was exposed for a few seconds before putting the diaper on. Wagon Jr. is circumcised but he has a "generous ring of foreskin" left (words of our pediatric urologist!!) that was pushed forward even more because he was chubby. Sometimes during baths we pushed it back as well, to let some water get at it, when he was a baby, but now we don't worry about it so much. </p> <p>Sometimes his pee-pee gets a little red and irritated (probably from the friction with his underwear as he's running around) but we usually leave it alone and it resolves itself, unless he complains of pain. Then we put some vaseline on it. She also told us to apply A&amp;D ointment to that area at every diaper change too. The base of the tip was always bright pinkish red but I think that's normal. He's never had an infection there. At one point, we kept forgetting to pull down the skin and the skin and penis ended up sticking together! The pediatrician pulled it apart. :( We vowed never to forget to pull down the skin ever again. Usually a good bath one day and just water and needed areas the next, but DS loves bathtime and we skip days in there too, but more often than not he is in the tub each night as part of our routine. He is really chubby down there and as our Dr says it makes his penis "turtle in" and the skin comes up around it. Apparently the skin can start to reattach so we pull it back and wipe around it. Sometimes it can seem more irritated after that but we have never had an infection. Sorry if I wasn't much help! Anyway, just wondering if you put any special care to your LO's penis and scrotum area. We saw the pediatrician a couple of days ago because we saw his left scrotum area looked red and abraised. The doctor prescribed some over-the-counter antibiotic cream and it started to get better, which was a huge relief. Since then, it comes and goes! :( I really wish we could get to the bottom of this because I really don't want to give my LO oral antibiotics willy-nilly. Anyway, I also notice that the skin around his penis is sometimes more pink-ish than usual. DH cleans LO's penis by pushing down on the skin and releasing the penis, because sometimes it tends to stick and invert itself. That pushing down on the skin thing really grosses me out for some reason! LO is circumcised though. Anyway, just wondering if you do anything special for taking care of that area. Do you wipe it down during every single diaper change? Have you ever deal with an infection? </p>
