@Amorini: I read 99% on a Kindle. A large part of it is that I like having lots of books on hand because I put down books I'm not into, so it's easier to carry a full library around with me. I usually have a paper book at home to read on the couch, so that my 5 year old sees me reading on something that looks similar to how she is reading, but she also knows the Kindle is a grown up book.

Wow - 88! I am so impressed. I feel like I've read a lot more lately but my goodreads says I've only read 14 books this year. Weird. I'm sure I just haven't marked a bunch. I do love to read, I've been trying to make a conscious effort to go to the kindle app instead of aimlessly scrolling instagram or twitter.

@Mrs. Carrot: I just sent you a friend request!

@Mrs. Champagne: It took me forever to read I'll Be Gone in the Dark for a similar reason - I couldn't read it after dark, even with my husband home - I kept thinking I saw something in the backyard.

@Amorini: I do a mix of both - I always have my Kindle in my purse, but I also like actual hard copy books (more and more, actually - for a while I was exclusively kindle but I'm moving back the other way). I always have an actual book on my bedside table but otherwise it depends on what I'm reading, how much cheaper it was on kindle compared to hard copy, and whether or not I could get it from the library - my library system only supports the Kobo ereader format so library books are all hard copy.

@Amorini: I use a kindle paperwhite. I LOVE it and very rarely read a paper book anymore. The best part is for me is that I can instantly get another book to read, and I use the online library so they're still always free.

@Amorini: I mentioned it above that I normally read on my iPad through the overdrive app. Free books  I do however try to keep a couple paper books on standby for times such as reading outside or if we are in the vehicle and my kids are using my iPad.

Hey Reader Bees! Wow! Impressive numbers and goals here! Just any kind of consistency in the non-work and non-childcare realm is impressive!

I spent half my life as a big reader and the other half not so much. You all make me miss it.

I am curious how many of you are using e-readers or if anyone here still reads paper books?

My goal is 52 and I just finished 40!

I loved This is How it Always is!

I am really into Taylor Jenkins Reid as well. Hers have been great. I’m halfway through I’ll be gone in the dark - but I get spooked and my husband works nights so it’s slow going. Haha.

I really liked Chris Hadfields book - he’s the Canadian astronaut.

I usually stick my kobo in my purse so I have time to read if I’m waiting at pick up, etc. I also read at nap time and when the kids go to bed, and my husband is working.

104 is a lot of books! That’s awesome.

My goal is 80 for this year and I'm at 65 right now. Not sure I'm going to make it, my reading definitely slowed down this year because I lost a full leg of my commute after DH and I switched schedules around this year, but I think I'll get close. I loved This Is How It Always Is too! My other favorites were Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead, House Arrest by KA Holt, Educated by Tara Westover, Widows of Malabar Hill by Sujata Massey, and Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. Are you on Goodreads? Would love to connect there if you are! My username is annatmreads.

I don't set goals, but I love reading... since I drive to work now (commute 2.5 hours round trip every day) I mostly listen to AudioBooks, which makes my drive time FLY by.

@erinbaderin: I've been wanting to read I'll Be Gone in the Dark for a while, I often listen to the "My Favorite Murder" podcast and they talked about it a lot! I'm scared to listen, but its on my list!

I've recently listened to & enjoyed:
Fates & Furies
The Passage (trilogy) by Justin Cronin
A Gentleman in Moscow

@Lindsay05: I also like a lot of non-fiction...let’s see. I’ll be Gone in the Dark is about the Golden State Killer - the author spent years dedicated to trying to solve the crime, and sadly died just a few months before the killer was caught. Beautiful Boy is about the author’s son and his struggle with meth addiction. Educated, which @LadyDi mentioned, is the account of a woman who grew up as a child of survivalists in the Appalachians (I think), completely uneducated, and her life. I also recently read We Fed an Island by Jose Andres, about his experience trying to do relief meals in Puerto Rico after the hurricane. They’re all great reads!

My goal is a little different, rather than measure number of books, I am to read at least 20 minutes every day. My son does it for his nightly home learning, so when he's pulling out a book, I am sitting right next to him, reading my book. So far, we are doing great and I have finished one book I didn't think I had time to do!

I also recently put a book in my car and instead of watching a Netflix show, I read this morning on my train commute.

I don't set goals, but I love to read and try to do so steadily. Outside of reading for work research, I've been on a nonfiction/memoir kick: Ask Me About My Uterus; The Art of Waiting; Love, Loss, and What We Ate; Everything Happens For a Reason; When Breath Becomes Air; and currently reading Jedidiah Jenkins' To Shake the Sleeping Self (highly recommended!) and listening to Bringing Up Bebe. Fiction-wise, I looooved Burial Rites by Hannah Kent.

I didn't set a number goal, but I did aspire to read and listen to more books this year. It'd be hopeless without Audible and ebooks; my kids always hide my actual books!

We have gone through a lot of transitions this year, so I very much enjoyed Leap Year by Helen Russell. It's a humorous tale of her year trying to implement the research on accepting and embracing change.

@erinbaderin: Wow, that's impressive! I feel like I read quite a bit (and I'm a fast reader) but I'm only at 34. A couple of those were from the Outlander Series and I feel like those should count as like 5 books. :)
My fav. read (and one I couldn't put down) was Before We Were Yours, by Lisa Wingate. I also liked Every Last Lie by Mary Kubica.
Right now I'm reading The Alice Network by Kate Quinn which I really like.

88 books! Wow that’s impressive. I have been reading he most I have in years and read a book about every 2 weeks. I read usually before bed for about 30-60 minutes. I also love to read in the bath. My favourite types of books are non fiction. I love reading about true life events and some biographies. if anyone has any recommendations please let me know. I am currently reading Ready Player One and the second book of the outlander series. I download them on my iPad through the library so I usually have a couple on the go.

@LadyDi: Oooh, I also read those and they were great! The Tom Hanks one is seriously wonderful, every story is so charming and it’s own little world.

I basically read whenever I can! I’m a very fast reader, so that helps. I try to make a point to take a lunch hour at work whenever I can and read then, and in the evenings after the boys are in bed, and if traffic is good and I get to daycare early I’ll read in the car. Basically if I have a spare five minutes I’m probably pulling out a book.

When do you read? I used to read on my commute but now I stay home and I have less time to read. Anyway, I set a goal of 25 books and have only read 16 so I probably won’t meet my goal. I had a baby in February and didn’t read anything for about 3 months. I’ve started listening to audiobooks too, but I still prefer to actually read a book.

My favorites this year have been Educated and Little Fires Everywhere. I’ll have to add the Tom Hanks book to my list.

For those of you who set goals for the year, are you on track? Has anybody read anything great?

I set a goal of 104 books (2 a week) and so far I’ve read 88, so I’m right on track. The only problem is that the few times I’ve fallen behind it’s stressful! I’ve read some really good things this year so far. Some favourites: I’ll be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara (do not read in the dark), Uncommon Type by Tom Hanks (wonderful short stories), This is How it Always Is by Laurie Frankel, Us Against You by Fredrik Backman (the sequel to Beartown, which was also wonderful), and right now I’m halfway through Beautiful Boy by David Sheff, which is fascinating but terrifying and heartbreaking.
