Once LO was over 6 mos, we sprayed out the poops and then threw the diaper in the wet bag. Now we use a stainless trash can with a foot pedal lid and a simple laundry bag inside. I wash every other day, and no smell has ever built up. The dirty diapers I rinse and put in the laundry room to store for a day or two. We did rinse the diapers out with water in the tub before putting them in the diaper pail. When we washed them in the washing machine we would typically just do an extra rinse and they were fine.
