The nurses are given a holiday rotation for call each year, as well as getting additional pay when they take holiday call. I think it's something that could be applied to the manager position. I manage an assisted living and typically deal with staffing issues, random staff questions and an odd assortment of things. Today I had 7 phone calls and approximately 25-30 text messages. </p> <p>I have no problem checking voicemail or email while on PTO but that's something I can do on my own schedule, versus nonstop calls and texts without warnig. So much of it is the nature of the business, but I also feel our company could do a better job of supporting us or compensating for it in other ways. Our company lumps all vacation, personal, sick and holiday time off into one PTO bank and every employee must take 4 or 8 PTO hours (depending on PT/FT status) for designated holidays. </p> <p>I've never thought twice about this until recently. Does anyone know the explanation behind being forced to use 8 hours of PTO but still taking phone calls, etc.? I'm assuming there has to be legitimate logic behind it. Our nurses are also required to be on call, but rotate holiday call throughout the year with our other locations (and get additional pay for it). </p>
