LOL! My husband is the same way. His newest thing is he doesn't want to buy a "yuppy expensive stroller with shocks." Everytime we go out he points out the most flimsy stroller and says it is sufficient. I wonder when I'll wear him down.

My husband is sort of like that. He says he'll make stuff or fix something instead of having someone else do it, but he is too busy so... good intentions, you know?

@CameronsMomma: =( in hindsight, i wish i didn't get the changing pad - i did have a flat one on my registry as well. =T

@jennylynn: i know exactly what you're talking about! haha. my husband thinks we should just use blankets and not bother with clothes!

@mrsbells: where in the world did you get THAT deal? sounds awesome!

I think if you stalk good baby sites and places like walmart you will get a lot of stuff on sale or with a coupon or as a freebie. So far I've managed to get a good deal on every baby thing I've bought. My husband assembled the baby furniture this weekend and I was half afraid it would look awful but it looks awesome and is very sturdy and it was only $199 but 3 pieces of furniture {crib, dresser & changing table}

Men are too funny when it comes to stuff like this ! I totally believe if it were up to my husband, our daughter would wear paper towels for diapers and he's hose her off in the sink when she messed like uncle jesse and joey did on that episode of Full House. Please tell me someone knows what I'm talking about....

I do agree the baby industry is a total ripoff, but the thought of someone pushing a grocery cart around the city with a baby in it is cracking me up!

My husband isn't like that at all, it's me mostly. I'll admit I'm worse than usual when it comes to baby stuff because I really haven't got a clue, but I'm pretty frugal with everything else.

The one thing we didn't "splurge" on was a change pad and covers. 30$ for the pad and 15$ for each cover? heck no. We bought a set of two water proof terry clothe change pads (the flat ones you'd find in a diaper bag) and decided bed or floor for changing. Easy peasy throw them in the wash.

Everything else we mostly got second hand or given to us (most of our clothes, swings, high chair, crib, dresser, monitor, etc).

Our total to buy list I think was a pump, bottles, change pad, bassinet/play pen, diaper bag, diapers and wipes. I have bought a couple onesies, but that's it.

That's pretty funny, and I can totally see my brother being the same way, and my husband (to some extent). Yes, some of it's a rip off, but some of the things make life so much easier, so why not splurge? lol

A great way to split the difference is to get everything secondhand... you really can get things for much cheaper (or free!).

HAHA. The baby industry is a total rip off. I totally get where he's coming from. Our parents raised us without all the frills, expensive car seats/strollers, etc. :D We got tons of free loot from the hospital. Maybe 5 really big swaddling blankets. (the standard pink and blue stripe).
When DH and I want to purchase something for the baby, we ask ourselves, is this something we ABSOLUTELY need? Usually it's a no. Been saving lots of money and space!

he's so silly. he totally thinks the baby industry rips us off and is milking us. first, he doesn't want to buy a stroller. he wants to buy a carseat and use a shopping cart to cart it around. (at least he's willing to pay for a carseat lol)... so, i recently got a changing pad from a friend and he saw that and was like what the heck! just use some sheets/blankets and make a square. he took a t-shirt and was like here, here's a swaddle blanket. i'll charge $40. silly.
