@Foodnerd81: Thank you. I'm confused by cast iron too. I mean, I get making certain things in them, but the other night DH made spaghetti sauce in it...then claimed he was going to clean it up. Well, the next morning it was still sitting there and it was...crusty to say the least. I ended up getting out what I could and water-soaked the pan and just told him to reseason it. Meh.

@MaisyMay: Yup, totally read it as plan a murder at first!

I actually don't get cast iron pans. I know you aren't supposed to really wash them so much, but then it never seems clean and there are bits of cooked food stuck to it.

In general, it's better for our relationship to have mostly things that can go in the dishwasher, even if it wears them out faster and we don't get the very nicest things. Otherwise we'd be having fights like this all the time. He knows to not put the good knives in there, but even that requires a reminder every once in a while. But he definitely scraped a nonstick pan to the point that I had to throw it out when we moved. I was sad about that one, even though I think it was from Target!

Actually I do have one story that is kind of related! DH put a pan that can't be dishwashed... in the dishwasher. It ruined it.

Not a pan but he always sits and leans up against the bed headboard, which is stained wood. His hair gel got all over it. One day, without consulting me (he's usually pretty good about this kind of stuff!) he tried to clean it off with an abrasive sponge.... it took ALL the stain off.....

I have a metal baking dish that has my name engraved on the side and it was the most non stick thing ever, everything always just wiped right out.... that is until dh did the dishes one day and threw it in the dish washer with everything else! Now it sucks :( It isn't his family though because he had no clue, I never told him that.

We have a cast iron grill that I used a lot and DH washed it once and never did it again. He won't even touch it lol.

Nothing to do with pans, but there are tons of chores I feel like I have to remind DH the details of every time! For instance, he NEVER rinses off his dishes after dinner. He just dumps them in the sink. Then when I get home to clean them the dirt is all caked on and really hard to clean. I've asked him to rinse off his dishes 3498944 times and he still can't seem to remember to do it when he is at the sink with his plate!

I hate being a nag. Why can't he remember this stuff lol??

He did the dishes yesterday morning and when I unloaded last night I realized he'd thrown my cast iron pan in there. About a year ago he left it to soak in soapy water overnight!

Luckily those things are pretty indestructible, and I just had to reseason it, but I feel like every time he does the dishes I have to remind him about that one!

Has your SO ever tried to destroy a pan? Did it work?
