@MamaMoose: I'm so sorry! Getting in wig a pediatric GI is so tough! Our original one had a very long (3 month) wait but we got in with in a week from being on the cancellation list also. The GI we just switched to had a month wait for an "urgent" appointment but DS's allergist pulled strings to get it moved up under a week...basically just hang in there and cancellation happen all the time so if/when they call with one jump on the appointment!

@anbanan15: So the GI specialist our ped spoke to thinks it's probably colitis based on M's symptoms. But obviously she needs to see her to make a true call. Unfortunately the first available appointment isn't until July 16th but they have us on a high priority wait list is there are any cancellations : (

@MamaMoose: I hope you get some answers! It's worth looking into an validating your concerns. Good for you for trying your hand at the elimination diet! I did top 8 + gluten free for awhile and once we still couldn't get things under control dropped to the TED (total elimination diet) with only 3 foods (quinoa, broccoli, carrots) and slowly added back in one at a time. That worked better for us, essentially working from nothing instead of guessing at what was the issue. Also your LO doesn't necessarily need to vomit with FPIES. My son as more of a bloody/mucous stool reactor but did vomit with certain foods also. A little girl recently got diagnosed with mucous in her stools being her only symptom. She was 15 mo at diagnosis and still has no safe foods. Good luck!

@anbanan15: I don't think that will be the case for us. She has done really well with a variety of solids, and has never vommitted much. But even with me on an intense elimination diet (dairy, soy, wheat, eggs, nuts and fish) we've never gotten to a point where she has zero mucus in her stool. And I just feel like I'm eliminating so many things without feeling confident that those foods are really triggers so I pushed to try to do some form of allergy testing. I have IBS and a pretty sensitive digestive system myself and I wonder if she just takes after her mama in that regard.

@MamaMoose: oh no! Do they suspect FPIES? It's a tough road, but if M does get an FPIES dx just hold on to the knowledge/hope that one day your LO should outgrow it! That's what I do :) and take it one day at a time.

This is great news! I hope it also leads to additional research and funding. Our Pedi finally just decided we need a GI consult to figure out what exactly is going on with M's food issue so I'm looking forward to clearer answers!

@Mrs. Jacks: Exactly this! I wish they could immediately start using it but I understand they are switching over from the old ICD-9 system?

FPIES (Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome) will finally have it's own diagnosis code. The new ICD-10 code will take into effect in 2015! This is huge for the FPIES community and will (hopefully) enable better communication, recognition, awareness and insurance coverage for FPIES patients.

Some of you may have seen FPIES in the news lately. This morning it was featured on the Ricki Lake Show and a few days ago a story was run on ABC News and Good Morning America.
