My son learned "hug and let go" in school. They're all really affectionate, they hug each other constantly, but quickly.

@edelweiss: He really doesn't have times that he does it. I really think he's a physical kid in terms of how he expresses himself, so DH and I are trying to help in him that regard by being very physical with him (snuggles, etc.) and we're trying to help him with his hugs. I might teach him to hug his bear instead, though! We'll try it.

are there certain times/circumstances in which he does this? if he's doing it for comfort, i was wondering if maybe substituting a toy/lovey/whatever would help.

Following. My DD is the same way to her brother. We often end up with booboos!

My DS, who is two and a half, is a very friendly little guy to his sister... Like, too friendly. He hugs her from behind and won't let go. We've taught her to say "No hugs!" and taught him that he is supposed to let go when she says this. It doesn't seem to have gotten through his head, though. Yes constantly grabbing on to her, almost tackling her, wanting hugs from her. He doesn't really do this to anyone else. I'm not quite sure what to do here. Any other suggestions as to how to make sure he respects her space when she tells him to?
