He does amazing work. I've seen instagrams that try to be a knock off, I love stories so I've tried taking a look at a few, but they don't capture all the nuances of character in any way like HONY. Its really amazing what he does in such a beautiful, thought provoking way.

I finally had a chance to check out the stories and photos. These are the narratives we need to know about- not the filtered news.

Yes....it's good that Americans (well, everyone reading HONY) are becoming more aware. Refugee situations have been happening our entire lives though....this is just the latest incident. My husband and his family were refugees (migrants by force?) when he was 10 because he grew up in a country embroiled in a very bloody civil war. They had to pretend to be someone else and had to leave their house and all of their belonging and start totally over from scratch. My husband didn't go to school for over a year because schools were being bombed, so they closed them all. They slept on the floor in community bomb shelters for months with dozens of other families and no privacy. This is the reality for a lot of people across the globe, so I'm glad this particular situation is finally getting some attention.

Yes, I love him for doing this (and so many of the other things he covers!) It is so important to show the human side of the refugee crisis, because I have seen way too many people dismiss the suffering of so many because they clearly don't have an understanding of what all of this really means on an individual scale.

As an aside, someone I know got to work with him when he was visiting the country where she lives this summer and I was so jealous! I would love to meet him.

i absolutely LOVE Humans of New York. Such an inspiration and really helps put things in perspective. Not just in regards to these refugee stories (although they are certainly heartbreaking) but just hearing 'regular' New York stories too are so touching.

Yes, it really puts things in to perspective. Here I was complaining about my new cable bill being double what they said, but then I read their stories, about their child being abducted or their husband floating away at sea trying to escape, and it makes me just stop in my tracks to be grateful for what I have.

This whole series is horrifying. I've had to talk myself back into reading it a few times because I think it's so important, but man has it been tough to read. I've been sharing it with others that I know don't follow already because I'm so sick of news outlets throwing the word "terrorist" around.

Oh yes. I've followed HONY for years. Brandon is an inspiration, and I think he is amazing for brining the world into our homes. I LOVED his series on Iran this summer; I learned so much about the country and Iranian people. And the refugee series is fantastic as well. Cuts right through so much of the poisonous, nasty and cold-hearted rhetoric about immigrants.
