I do the vinegar solution soak and then scrub it out afterward with a clean cloth. I think it does a good job!

I have best air. I put a capful in the water when I fill it up to keep it clean. I got it off Amazon. There are a few different brands to choose from.

Edit: here's a link http://www.amazon.com/BestAir-3BT-6-Humidifier-Bacteriostatic-Treatment/dp/B000CMHLMG

We run it through with vinegar/water too, but I think bleaching it every so often is probably a good idea

I just use vinegar to clean our humidifier. About 1-2 weeks, I just fill it with a vinegar + water solution, swish it around, let it sit for about 30 mins, and rinse out.

@regberadaisy: Bleach breaks down pretty rapidly into salts and oxygen when exposed to light/air/water. I'm not worried about any sort of residue it leaves behind. Vinegar does not sanitize the way that bleach does.

@kiddosc: I do too and am not comfortable putting a bleach solution in something that will be pumping moisture out that we then breathe. I do a vinegar solution instead and it does the job to prevent mold and sliminess. But if I'm going to start using it nightly I think build up will intensify!

We have a filter-less humidifier and the manual recommends washing with a bleach solution once a week and letting the unit completely air dry after cleaning.

I'll like to start running the humidifier in our girls room nightly to see if it'll help with their chronic "rashy skin" problem. I heard someone mention on here about a tablet you can put into the humidifier to help with cleaning and preventing mold.

Anyone know what I'm talking about and have a rec? Will check out trusty Amazon too! ;)

Is there anything else you do for routine maintenance? Besides changing the water often and using filtered water. I do both and notice a white film buildup on the side. Not sure if I need to "Demineralization" or "descaling"??
