We bought one after being told that it'll help with colds/congestion. I actually had a cold when it arrived and plugged it in that night. I felt like I was able to breathe easier the next day.

Everything I read says to avoid the warm mist ones because they promote mold.

We had one for the first couple months because our air was so dry and she was always congested. Haven't used it for a few months now though, but now that it's getting cooler again, we might have to take it back out.

Ah...it's a must for us! We live in super-dry SoCal and I need it, especially with my eczema! After DH got used to having it on in our room, he can't even sleep well without one anymore!
Eczema runs in my family and my cousins' kids all NEED a humidifier, not only in their rooms, but in their playrooms/living rooms as well. I would say if you lived in a humid state, no need. But if you live in a dry climate, yes.

We didn't bother with one until recently, and we live in a pretty dry climate. I wish we did use it when LO was a newborn because she was congested ALL the time and looking back, i think it would've helped. My parents bought me this one, and it's pretty amazing (so silent): http://www.amazon.com/CH-5312-CUCKOO-Ultrasonic-Humidifier/dp/B004Z8OJQE/ref=pd_sim_sbs_hg_1

i used the humidifier so much with charlie esp because he was sick a lot. but then i found out that humidifiers can greatly exacerbate asthma, and it's not recommended for for children with asthma.

charlie hasn't been diagnosed with asthma, but he has had several respiratory viruses.

so now we don't use humidifiers for either kids at all.

I've seen humidifiers on a lot of sample registries, and I'm wondering if we should add one to ours. I read they're not really necessary, but I thought I would ask a few real moms. So, do you use a humidifier? If so, how frequently? Is it a must have?

Also, just wanted to add that we live at sea level on the coast of Virginia, so it's definitely not a dry climate.
