For what it's worth, I bought black and I'm glad I did. I have pretty thick calves (I call them "athletic") and the shaft of the Hunter boots fits me in skinny jeans so I've been pleased. I don't wear them when it's not raining (or has rained and the streets are wet). My feet sweat a little in them, but only when it's hot outside. I live in the deep deep South.</p> <p>Also, they get more comfortable over time. They might be a little stiff at first so don't be intimidated. I did go and try them on and I thought they were pretty comfy. I live in a wet climate with a somewhat snowy winter. They have held up well and I live in a rainy climate. I've also used them in snow with the socks. I think it's works ok because I didn't want to buy snow boots for one week in the snow. I got them so I could play in the rain, the yard, or the farm with my son in all weather conditions. My feet don't sweat in them. I've worn mine a ton during rain and snow. I have the socks too. My complaints - one buckle broke off the rubber but I was able to get it fixed by a cobbler and I've basically worn through the soles. They're heavy, the tread looks impressive but is actually very slippery, and the shaft is uncomfortable because it's so narrow. Great for rain, but I find them pretty bulky/heavy. Without the socks, they are freezing in the winter, but with the socks, my feet/legs sweat to death. I tend to just use them on really rainy days when I don't want to be soaked when I get to the office. (I work in NYC so I have to walk outside for a bit. I bought some last year and never choose to wear them. The socks make them too tight to pull over leggings and besides that they don't bend at all so they end up hurting my legs. Plus they are very heavy.
