My LO was born with one and our pediatrician said he would wait till 1 year to see if it would resolve, or they would do surgery. My LO's disappeared after about 10 months, but the swelling did go up and down like crazy. If it helps, our pediatrician reassured me it was a simple surgery and hydroceles shouldn't haven't any lasting impact.

I don't know all the details but my DH had this and had to have hydrocele repair surgery when he was in lower elementary school. He still has a small scar. :)
He doesn't recall much but said they had to travel for the surgery and he was excited to get to spend alone time with his parents (has 4 siblings) and that his parents spoiled him rotten that trip. Ha!
Sorry I'm no help other than to say DH had it and is normal with normal testicle function and a baby on the way. We struggled with infertility and he always wondered if that had anything to do with it. His doctors told him it shouldn't and then he ended up having to get a SA and all numbers came back normal.

@creativemomma15: my wee man was born with a hydrocele but it had mostly disappeared by the time he was a month old. He was checked by two pedi's before discharge (they both ruled out a hernia) but there is some concern over a missing testicle and we're currently waiting on a date for an ultrasound.

@lulu22: I was told that the swelling might go up and down for a year!

My LO has this! He is only 10weeks old and I'm pretty sure he has had it since birth. we freaked out last night because it looked bigger than usual and just a tad blue so I took him to the dr today and they ordered an ultrasound to make sure it wasn't a hernia or twisted testicle. The ultrasound showed a large hydrocele on one and a small one on the other (no hernia and blood flow was fine) I think they usually go away within a year but because my LO's swelled up and then went back down, our dr is referring us to a pediatric urologist to take a look at it and keep an eye on it - I will let you know how the appointment goes when we see him.

DS just had his 3 year check up and his dr noticed a small hydrocele I think he called it on his one testicle... Anyone have any experience with this? It's the same dr we always see so he was surprised to find it this time as it's never been there before. He is doing a recheck in 3 months to see if it's still there/seems larger. If it is he mentioned seeing a specialist.

I've never heard of this before and thought I'd ask for anyone's experience or knowledge.
