@PrincessBaby: have you considered bringing her to a dermatologist?

@wheres_c: I have been thinking allergy too. A drool rash doesn't seem like it will be this stubborn and never go away.

Like @LuckyPenny - my thought as I was ready through this was yeast as well. I also wasn't sure how likely it would be to get a yeast rash around her mouth.

The other thing that I would recommend (which we finally discovered) is CeraVe. It's a moisturizer that is helping us with some dryness/irritation on our toddlers face. I've also being using it on some of my stubborn skin and seen improvement in a week's time.

Our doc gave us some for a rash on DDs bum. She said if it got worse it could be yeast. Could it be a yeast rash on her face?

Has she been eating anything acidic? Fruit, yogurt, tomato-based foods, etc? When I was a baby if I got any acidic foods on the skin around my mouth I got redness like that.

Well crapballs...Nurse said that it may sometimes get more red before it gets better, and to definitely give it a couple of more days. Gah! Go the F away rash!!!
@mrs. wagon: Nurse also said this is the strongest thing they Rx for this and if it doesn't help then they might refer us to a Derm. Great!

@PrincessBaby: I know your pain. Wj had a red, raw rash under his chin for almost a year. Our ped is funny.. Every time we came back he'd say that rashes are a pain in the butt because they're so hard to diagnose, treatment is kind of like a crap shoot. We went through 2-4 weeks of four different ointments before we graduated to a very strong steroid which wiped it out overnight.

People would see his chin and be like, Omg, what happened?? :( I was so happy we got rid of it. It did come back once but that same ointment got rid of it in a day again, and we haven't seen it since. Your peds will prob do the same thing.. Try ointments for fungal, bacterial, etc. Before they prescribe something super strong.

Tell your ped it's worse. DS had a persistent spot on his leg that we asked about. Our ped said to apply hydrocortisone 2x day and if it improves it's just the contact dermatitis, but if it flares it would have likely been fungal and would have needed a different cream. Not necessarily the case for H, but the flare might indicate that it's something needing more attention.

E has had a rash near her mouth for awhile and her ped said it's just from teething so it should be gone when her other tooth comes in. This post makes me think it's something more, haha.

Hydrocortisone has always worked right away with DS though.

@Navy_Mommy: I think the original Dx was that it was bacterial, hence the bactroban, and then yesterday he said that it's def not bacterial- it's from contact with something, like a food or material. I'm racking my brain trying to figure out what it could possibly be. It's driving me nuts because everyone's like, "What is wrong with her face?"

@mrsjyw: @Adira: @hilsy85: Crap! I don't know why this is sooooo stubborn! I cant figure it out! She had that earth's best wafer and the only thing it had in it that she's never had is soy. And it said "may contain soy." Like how do they not know??? And how has it caused her to have it for THIS long? Driving me nuts!

We've also used OTC HC ointment (1%) and it never causes more redness - it usually makes it less red! Other ointments/creams that has caused more redness, I've stopped using, because I always assumed that Xander was allergic to them (though I don't REALLY know). Def call the ped! Poor H!!! <3

No. It's a steroid, it should help right away not make it worse.

And BTW contact dermatitis is just a fancy word for rash. It's a diagnosis they use when they don't know what's wrong.

I"ve never had hc cream cause additional redness--I've used it on eczema and it always makes it get better quickly. Do you think it could be red from you rubbing it in? If not, I would call the pedi and just ask.

We use OTC HC cream (1%?) and we've never had it cause more redness for any of A's rashes, including face/contact rashes. I'd def call the pedi!! The redness going away is the first sign for me that the HC cream is working. Poor baby H!!

I'm sorry that I'm flying in to ask a quick question...We are in a world of madness trying to get set up in our new house! I'm hoping to be "back" soon!

H has had a rash around her mouth (no bumps, just red skin) for a little over a week. At first, we were Rxed Bactroban ointment and used that, very little improvement. So we went back to the ped yesterday, saw a different Dr, and he said it's contact dermatitis, and Rxed Hydrocortisone 2.5%, so prescription strength. I put it on her last night right before bed so I didn't see her too much after putting her down. This morning, I put it on her and her face is more red in some of the areas I applied it. Is it normal for hydrocortisone to make it a little more red at first?

I'm so sick of this rash! I called the nurse but still waiting on a call back...So I figured I'd post a quick question to the experts here:).
