@urchin: I had it in conjunction with complete kidney failure and even after my kidney transplant. Wouldn't say I'm an expert but I've easily had 5-10 stents. I did not have this during pregnancy so I can't comment on that. Let me know if there is anything I can do or answer for you!

@Urchin: How well do you tolerate the stents? If you do okay, you could ask about the metallic stent. It's supposed to be okay to stay in for up to a year. Would at least save you stent changes.

@Urchin: I am not exactly what you are looking for, but I was diagnosed with this condition in middle school. I had surgery after a whole range of testing. I think they basically cut out part of my ureter that was too narrow and causing the blockages, and reattached everything. I have never had another episode in the 20 years since. I wonder if it might be worth talking to your doctor or asking for a referral to a specialist to see if they may be able to make more permanent improvement for you?

Hm! Interesting. I thought my cousin had this, but it was something else that had to do with, I believe, her liver failing due to the pregnancy. She had really itchy hands and feet and that's how she found out about it!

Haha sorry, that's not really helpful.

I know this is a long-shot, but has anyone here had hydronephrosis during pregnancy?

Now...I know that most pregnant women will experience it to an extent and not even know it, but I am interested in talking to women who had to have interventions, etc.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term, hydronephrosis is when your kidney fails to drain, usually due to your uterus blocking the flow of your ureters. It's pretty painful, and in my case, I required surgery on multiple occasions to have stents placed.

I had this from weeks 22-birth and it was challenging at times. It's unknown if I will experience it again in my next pregnancy.

I just wish there were other momma's out there that I could talk to about it. I have nervousness about getting pregnant again because of it...and I don't know anyone in real life or online that has had this happen.

Just thought I'd give it a shot! And if anyone has questions in the meantime, I'm glad to answer them!
