@Boogs: oh gosh... like nursing school isn't intense enough without the added pressure of a double major hahaha! I just don't think that's a feasible options. I'm sure y grades would suffer trying to focus on two things... and nursing school is SO hard as it is.

@Foodnerd81: yeah... I've been doing some GD stuff anyway for my etsy shop, so I'm kind of working from home. but without the ability to have designated hours it's hard to stay motivated.

@stargal: unfortunately no - hubby is a math professor at a local business college. His hours are set and he often works nights and days (10-14 hours days 4x a week) so that eliminates even the option for me to take night classes. My mom's health is so up/down that she couldn't be a reliable babysitter and my sister already works two nanny jobs. I think though that if I get into school I might apply for daycare assistance through the state...

@Mrs. Pen: Why can't you do both? :) They are both careers you can do part time and the graphic design would have more flexible hours. Lots of people have double majors!

I am the opposite, I work full time but am itching to be a SAHM! I might add my job is not my career and it does not fulfill me.

@Mrs. Pen: It seems like graphic design would have much more flexible hours, but I'm pretty sure you've already thought of that! It would be appealing to me because you'd have the option of working from home, but of course, that defeats the purpose of getting out and interacting with adults!

I'm a little bit the opposite of you-- I've been working for almost 10 years, and I'm getting so sick of my current job (as evidenced by the amount of time I'm on Hellobee during the day...) I'll be a SAHM for a few years come this summer, but then I want to go into a new career and I'll be in the same boat, trying to figure out what that is!

@Mrs. Pen: icic. Maybe try to make a pro/ con list to decide. On a major....could family member or is your hubbya schedule flexiable where he could watch c for you while your at class? Also some schools have free or reduced childcare options, something to look into. Online classes r convenient but might make you feel less then fur filled since you will still be at home lacking social interaction.... def do something for yourself though you deserve it! And going back to school with help C too

@Cherrybee: Nursing (working in L&D or a birth center) or Graphic design. Polar opposites but both passions of mine!

@stargal: yup! all gen ed classes are completed with my AA. the point was to finish that so I could then focus on just my major when I go back. Problem is I have no idea which major I want - and they couldn't be more different.

When I start school I'll probably do it all online because otherwise I don't know what I'd do for childcare.

I would try to def get back into school so that you can get a job you want. Could you maybe take some core classes like general end requirements before you choose a major or did you already complete them with your associates degree? I'm back at school working on my ba degree part-time and I'm hoping the adult interaction will be a nice break. And since I'm par time I am also able to still primarily be a sahm, would that be an option for you?

I've been without a job for two years coming up on May... I was home my entire pregnancy and Cobi's first year. He will be one year in 5 weeks.

(well technically I was a very PT nanny for the last two years, lost my job in Oct.. so I was working... but it didn't feel like work especially since I brought my baby with...)

I only have an associates degree and am unqualified to do something that makes enough to cover childcare costs. The only work I could do at the moment is either get another nanny job which is SO not what I want to do, or get a weekend job in retail or food service... again... not ideal. I would NEVER see my husband or get time together just the three of us. :-P

But I spend pretty much 24/7 at home and I feel so unfulfilled. I would like to get out more. Meet people, DO something.

I need to get my butt into gear and apply to school again and work toward getting a BA or BS. I'm going between two programs though - not sure what I want to do.

Oh - and I know I can't even just go apply for jobs and see what happens because I agreed to do daycare for a friend for the summer while she waits for an opening at her daycare...

Any other SAHM's itching to get a job?
