Don't worry about it if your pedi isn't worried. Like people have said, if she's eating pooping/peeing and gaining then your good. Some babies take longer than others but doesn't make them any less healthy.

If she is eattin and wetting and growing I wouldn't be concerned. My son plummeted from the 50th to the 0.5 percentile in 6 months. He also had bad stools and was in pain. He has since gained weight back. He is still really really little 3 percentile but he is very healthy. So even though the gastro wants us to gain more we are happy with what we have seen. It has taken 14 months to get this zen with it.

Also, you need to take them all with a grain of salt. Formula, mixed, and breastfeed babies all gain weight differently. My son wasn't off the breastfed chart.

I constantly worried about this since DD was going down in percentiles with her weight. Her pediatrician had no problems with it because developmentally she was hitting milestones and was high in other percentiles. At almost 28 months she weighs 25 pounds and is about 36" tall. She takes afternoon her dad who is 6'2" and just recently passed 150lbs.

If she is healthy and happy and meeting the milestones don't fret about it although I know that is hard to do sometimes.

It's hard to brush people's comments off but apparently babies are either too fat or too skinny. My LO has a very round face so even though she's only at the 50th percentile for weight everyone would comment on how chubby she was. As long as she's gaining weight and your pediatrician is happy just politely tell them to buzz off. I always would say in reply that I thought she was perfect and that usually left people grasping for what to say in reply.

Why do people feel the need to comment on baby weight so much? It seems that strangers either say one thing or the other. Everyone is always telling me that mine is such a big, solid boy for his age. That he looks like he has chipmunk cheeks, a big belly, etc.

@Mrs. Jacks: Our girls are so alike! DD was 23 lbs at her 2 year checkup. :)

OP - Don't worry. DD has always been long and skinny; she didn't weigh 15 pounds until she hit 6 months! She wasn't even 20 pounds until she was 18 months. She's perfectly healthy (and eats like a horse!) she just has a naturally thin frame.

Nah, she's CUTE! No one but a mom with the same age baby knows how big a baby is supposed to be. She is "small" because she is so young and most people just forget how tiny babies really are! Don't worry, mama. :)

Awww, I have the opposite issue and people always make comments about my LO's weight. What are you feeding her? Don't you think she is eating too much? So and so was never this big! :-(

I agree with @Mrs. Jacks. I've noticed since I've had my LO people have made so many comments.. (are you breast feeding, there's no way your baby is # weeks, he's too small, is your baby sleeping through the night, etc). It's kinda annoying even though I know people don't mean anything by it.

My almost 4 year old is only 33 lbs. and in the 36th percentile. Alot of kids these days are over weight so I am happy he is below the 50th percentile.

While I cant weight in on the medical/health aspect of it... I can say that I worked in a Montessori for 2 years (we took kids from 3-5.5) and I saw some INSANE size differences. I mean you have you super teenie tiny guys and your super chubby and your super tall.....
I wouldn't worry! And I've seen you...you are a petite little thing:) So, unless Dr. worries: I wouldn't.

I get that too (she's 97th for height but 50th for weight). She looks very skinny. So sometimes I wish she had more cute baby rolls, but her ped says she is growing at a perfect rate. Plus, less rolls means less sweat gunk in rolls and an easier bath time! lol

My two year old is 22 lbs. remember there is an obesity epidemic in this country and kids are bigger and bigger and that isn't necessarily a good thing. Just feed responsively and you'll be fine!

If your ped was happy with her weight gain, you should be Justine. My lo was in the 10th percentile at her 1 month and will probably jump significantly at her 2 month. She won't be a chunker anytime soon. Every baby is different. You have time for your lo to fatten up. :-)

Every time I bring LO out, people have always remarked on how small she is, and I have started to get worried. At her one month check up, she was only in the 15th percentile for height and weight. However, at her two month check up, her pediatrician told us she had jumped to the 50th percentile! This alleviated some of my concerns, but people keep telling me how small she is. I just read that the average weight for a ten week old baby is 12 lb 8 oz. My LO is only 10.13!

How do I know if she is gaining enough weight? Is it silly I am concerned about this? She doesn't really have baby rolls and it makes me sad...

ETA: she was born at 7.13 and 19 inches, but then lost a full pound during her first 3 days home.
