Not a big deal! C took a nose-dive off the couch the other day ( even though she knows how to get down? Silly girl.) and gave herself a bloody nose. I felt awful!!

It happens though. C has fallen and run into things and bumped her head so many times since she became mobile. I think its pretty unavoidable. Youre not a bad mom!

@rachiecakes: Ok, thank you! I am sorry that he gets hurt sometimes, but it made me feel better that I'm not the only one with a LO with a banged up noggin! I have got to get tougher!!!!

@Mrs. Twine: Omg this made me laugh so hard!!! "Courts death...." Hilarious! Thank you for making me smile:)

@MsLipGloss: Thanks, girl;). I let her do everything on that list after this bump...I sung passionate and heartfelt renditions of ABCs, and I held the dog in my lap so she could stare at him the whole time while I fed her purée bc she was fussing. I went to mush. This turned my bitchy frustration into....banana purée:)

You are going to come over to my house and you are going to look at Lorelei. Then you are going to feel SO much better. You are a great mom, and H will be fine. It really depends on the child what happens with injuries once they are mobile. Ellie was not adventurous AT ALL, and so she pretty much always looked fresh and unblemished as a little daisy. Lorelei, on the other hand, prefers to court death and so she is completely covered with scratches, bruises, and etc. I try so hard to keep her in one piece, but she climbs furniture, she climbed a chain-link fence the other day (I was standing right there, but I was so fascinated that she was doing it that I just let her for a minute before hauling her down), and she runs everywhere. She looks like she has been mauled by a band of small cappuchin monkeys. Or something. Just do the best you can, and love on her a little extra. I'm pretty sure your ped. is just trying to be on the safe side. I would follow her directions, but I wouldn't let myself worry too much.

@PrincessBaby: yes! when he was first pulling up on things, he pulled up on the side of our bed, I walked to the doorway to toss a diaper and before I could even turn around, he fell on the hard edge of the bedrail and had a bump/scrape (no blood or broken skin, though). I cried and called my mom. I felt AWFUL.

then he started standing in the crib and falling, hitting his head. even now, he's 17 months and has been walking since he was just under a year but still takes tumbles that make my eyes well up. I've been told so many times it's just a part of learning how to get around for them, but that doesn't make witnessing it any easier for mom!

@PrincessBaby: I'm right there with you. LO was holding himself up on me yesterday. He turned around for a split second and did a face plant. Screams and blood around his teeth scared the crap out of me. Luckily, he bled very little, but still caused me so much shock. I had to have DH and my parents calm me down. I did a lot of teething toys to relieve the pain in his gums. I still feel like a bad parent for it.

this happens to every mom! :( and it's still terrible every time
as soon as DS was mobile he was pulling up and falling everywhere. as closely as I was hovering above him 24/7 he still got a few bumps and scrapes and of course, I cried just about every time, too.
hope you both feel better tomorrow <3

Aw, you are definitely not a bad mom! My LO hit her head on the edge of a bookshelf recently and had a long bruise on her head for a while. I felt so awful for letting her fall, but I try to remember that some bumps and bruises are part of growing up (and with my genes, she is destined to have lots!).

Hope H's bump goes away quickly and that you feel better!

I feel so awful bc I was complaining earlier about this wonder week and how cranky she's been. I deserve it:(

Totally not a mom fail, these things happen. Both of mine have had falls like that before. The worst was when DS was in for his 12 month visit and took a fall, landing on his head, off the.... wait for it.... EXAMINATION TABLE! Oh my gosh. I felt so bad, and worried they would call CPS. He was fine! And that was onto a hard surface (though I did get freaked out when the doc called the next morning from her private number....)

I just signed up for hello bee tonight and this was one of the first posts I read. I feel this way all the time lately! My daughter is constantly hurting herself whether it's falling when trying to stand of having her arms give out while crawling and bumping her head. You are not a terrible mom at all! It is impossible for us to keep our children in a bubble and not let them explore. You care which means you are a great mom!

@PrincessBaby: Oh lady, that's nothing. Right when LO was learning to walk, he hit his EYE on a bench at the bookstore and cut it and I frantically called my BIL (a doctor) to determine if it needed stitches and just this week, he now knows how to climb up on our bed and fell off backwards, bit his lip and has a huge scratch from his nose to his lip. He could have totally split his lip completely open. Things happen.
Also, I am always giving hubs a hard time about playing too rough or not watching close enough and his worst injuries have come on my watch. Bad mom - right here.

Aw honey you're a great Mama! Unless we put then in a bubble we can't protect our babies from every bump and scratch. Twice...TWICE!...E has fallen in the tub and bit his tongue so hard it bled. With me there. It's super scary, but it happens. We brought E into the pedi last week and he had two bruises on his legs! I thought for sure she's call CPS! But she just grinned and assured us that a mobile baby attracts bumps and bruises (and yea, cuts) like magnets!
