@crazydoglady: girl don't fight it. If you're hungry, you're hungry. One little hack I will offer that works for me is when I'm really hungry, I fill up with really healthy veggies and then I have less inclination to stuff myself with bowls and bowls of cereal and chicken nuggets. :silly:

@Iced Tea: @annem1990: @Mama Bird: @periwinklebee: @Sams Mom: @Shantuck: @ALV91711: Thank you, all. I should also point out that my sister is 6 weeks ahead of me and has gained 5ish pounds more than me. My mom said she gained about 40+ with each pregnancy and always lost it. We do make huge babies (DS was nearly 10 lbs and 22 inches.) I am going to focus on eating foods with more protein and healthy fats. I appreciate the kindness when I am feeling not so-great about my body. I am hoping for a repeat performance from my DS and end up even lighter than pre pregnancy. :silly:

@2littlepumpkins: That's true. Like I said, I gained 45+ pounds with DS, but only knew my weight from the beginning to end of pregnancy to avoid preoccupation with it (like now. :bummed: ) So, I have no idea when I gained what. I could have very well tapered off at the end. I'm dissapointed because I said I would "do better" next go-around, but maybe it just is what it is and I can focus on eating high quality/nutrition.

I agree with everyone else that there’s no shame in being hungry. I’d just try to tweak the content of the food you eat. I would try to arrange things so the “easy” options around you are pretty healthy. You could ask the people around you to help make sure you always have presliced produce, easy proteins, etc. so you don’t reach for carbs too often when your energy is low (which is often in pregnancy, ammirite?).

I never gained evenly so I don't think you'll necessarily gain tons more. But even if you do, just try to make it on healthy foods and remember that in the grand scheme this is a short time and when the hormones even out you'll be able to safely control your appetite.

I was nauseous and gained my first trimester with my last baby. So I tried to control it with some success. But then my baby was smaller than my others and had some issues at first gaining weight and I felt like my careful eating maybe was counter to what she needed, and selfish. So don't beat yourself up. What you're doing is important and beautiful, even though it doesn't always feel that way.

@crazydoglady: Not advice, but I went through the same thing while pregnant. Gained 60lbs  I was just never satisfied. Hungry 24/7. I was obsessed with my weight and hated every doctors appointment. As soon as I delivered, my appetite went back to normal. I’m now 8 months PP and just getting back to pre-pregnancy weight. I definitely have had to watch what I eat, but it’s not been too bad.

@crazydoglady: if you're that hungry, eating a lot may just be what your body needs! It may help to tweak what you're eating though - maybe food with more protein, or healthy fats, will keep you full longer. I've tried going heavy on carbs because they're easy on my stomach, but I seem to get hungry again very fast.

I think I'm on track to gain a lot of weight also - 13 weeks and I'm up 9 pounds. I'm pretty sure it will come off fast, but worried a little because when I get close to 30 pounds I start to have a hard time with stairs :bummed: and it's nothing but stairs on our transit system. On the other hand, I won't be surprised if the weight gain slows down, the hunger doesn't seem quite as bad now...

@crazydoglady: Don't beat yourself up over it. As others have said, focus to the extent you can on non-processed foods and be sure to include protein and healthy fats. Beyond that, your body is going to do what it does. Fwiw, my weight gain was fairly modest but I also haven't lost weight beyond what I lost from pushing out the baby and am still up from pre-pregnancy. Clothes shopping is pretty depressing, and I don't think I'll be able to fit in exercise until I stop pumping/breastfeeding. :meh: If you shed it quickly post-pregnancy, that's awesome.

One thing I noticed when I was pregnant, sometimes when I thought I was hungry, I'd drink a big glass of water. Turns out, sometimes I was just thirsty, but a lot of the time I was just hungry. I get how to feel too! I gained 75 lbs (was on track until 31 weeks then I blew up thanks to some problems) with my son 🙈 but lost 90 lbs with breastfeeding alone.

I feel like lately all I want to do is eat, I'm constantly hungry. I find it hard because I'm tired of figuring out what to eat.

I'm 21 weeks Monday and as if a week ago I had gained 21lbs. With DS I gained about 60lbs. I guess my body just likes to pack on the pounds while growing babies.

Hopefully you can find some good choices to fill you up.

@LCTBQE: I know what you mean, and I will. I am just wondering if my carb heavy diet just isn't doing me any favors (not really a surprise there) so I am hoping a modified paleo helps to keep me satisfied longer.

@bhbee: this totally supports my theory that your body is a runaway train during pregnancy and you can't control it *that* much--but you can make yourself unhappy over it pretty easily :silly:
@crazydoglady: that's cool, just be kind to yourself  I don't want to get GD either, my sugar test is may 16 and I'm a little bit nervous. but I also know a lot of people who had it and they and their babies are all fine, ya know?

I’ve gained more than the recommended 30-40 lbs during the pregnancies of both of my kids. I was hungry ALL THE TIME! Both times the weight melted off while breastfeeding. I’d try to pick healthier choices when given the option but you know your body and in my experience, the second time was very similar to the first time.

Of course we can always make better choices but I think it honestly could just be what your body does! I go through periods of being super hungry (like craving protein and fat like crazy) during pregnancy and then periods where I feel like I can barely eat. I definitely gain more in second tri. Also I was way more careful about eating in my first pregnancy, and I gained almost exactly the same in my second (not the same each week gain but same total number). This time I have gained less so far but started higher so I swear my body is just aiming for the same end game. Sure be more conscious of choices but also don’t go hungry! Your body knows what to do!

@crazydoglady: hugs, but chin up, you're doing well and your girl is getting fed. I am really hungry too, and I'm up 25 pounds at 25 weeks--last time I only gained 26 pounds *total*--so this pregnancy is different :) dunno how you're feeling, but trying to suppress your appetite will possssiiiiblllyyy only make you miserable. can I recommend fewer carbs and having plenty of fats in your diet? butter and olive oil and the skin on chicken will make you feel full. eggs (not egg whites) and veggies cooked in butter with bacon is a great breakfast and super filling, and if you want to round it out with some toast, that's still way better than a short stack. during the first tri I couldn't handle anything but crap carbs, but I'm trying a little harder now that meat and veggies don't sound awful.

You could try looking up some gestational diabetes diet plans. I had gd and had to eat like that but it really wasn't bad and I wasn't ever really hungry as you are eating 3 meals and 3 snacks per day. It balances carbs and protein so your body is able to deal with both things better

Eta: don't feel bad! Pregnancy is tough to deal with and even if you gain a lot it is what it is!

Ok, so I am just going to be upfront (although I am embarrassed) and say I have gained 30 lbs at 23 weeks. :bummed: I know. I gained a lot during the first trimester because the only thing that kept my morning sickness at bay was eating. Now that I am in the second tri, I am SO FREAKING HUNGRY all the time. With DS, I gained 45 lbs and then lost 70 doing nothing but breastfeeding and was at a very healthy BMI. I'm feeling so discouraged. Maybe this is just what I do during pregnancy? I've been googling "how to suppress appetite during pregnancy" looking for safe ways to stop being so famished. I don't know...I feel like I have a teenaged boy's appetite without the metabolism.

Anyway, I am not sure what I am looking for: commiseration, tips... just feeling bummed.
