@ladyfingers: Yea I really like that one too! It just seems a bit more timeless than some of the other super modern pieces. I like modern if thats 100% your style or if its a lower cost piece of furniture that can be replaced. If you are spending lots of money though I would look for something timeless.

@ladyfingers: Gotcha. I love, love, love mid-century furniture (I saw that you commented earlier that you have some). Have you checked out the Babyletto collection at Target? It's definitely not cheap, but you could get a changer and a dresser for the price of the Land of Nod dresser. I also think it's cute for a nursery but could easily be used as the child gets older. Here are some links:

http://www.target.com/p/babyletto-modo-3-drawer-changer-espresso/-/A-10965363

http://www.target.com/p/babyletto-modo-5-drawer-dresser-in-espresso/-/A-10965368

Not sure if it's the quality you're looking for, but just thought I'd throw it out there :) I think it also comes in a white/espresso mix, too.

@Thehistoryofus: Thanks! OMG I love that Room and Board dresser, I saw that last night. But it would be too expensive :( I don't love the Blake one either because we'll already have three white pieces (2 bookcases and one IKEA crib) in the room.

Honestly, I don't really care for either. I don't know that they would be lasting pieces (style wise) and for that amount of money I would want them forever! I think I like the style of the C&B one.

I like something like this (but maybe not with open shelves)
http://www.landofnod.com/blake-dresser-white/f6246

@lawbee11: True. It's the Gulliver crib from IKEA:

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20203332/

Length: 53 1/2 "
Width: 29 1/2 "
Height: 32 5/8 "

So, it's comparably sized. The crib will be across the room from the dresser, both on the long walls. It's doubling as a changing table, which is why I wanted something a little longer, so there would be enough room for the pad plus a basket of diaper changing stuff and possibly a lamp.

@ladyfingers: That's pretty big. Is the crib big? Can you post a pic of it? I just think the reason nursery dressers are typically on the smaller side is because the crib is small so it would look funny with a small crib next to a huge dresser, you know?

@Crisark: Oh, I know! He actually specified that he would buy us two pieces of furniture, and to let him know how much they would cost so he could send us a check. He gave DH a rough idea of how much money he was thinking they would cost together. So it's not like he gave us a dollar amount to spend, but more like he said "go ahead and buy a chair and a dresser" after DH told him the two big pieces I was looking for. Actually, after DH told him I was looking for a secondhand dresser, FIL told him to good lord no, don't buy anything used, to buy it new and he would pay for it lol.

The rest of the stuff we're getting for the nursery is very cheap (a $100 crib and two $60 bookcases from IKEA) and everything else is coming from around the house, so it's not like we need help with anything beyond what he's offered!

@ladyfingers: I like the Land of Nod dresser better. Don't get me wrong, I love Crate & Barrel, but that dresser looks a little too mature for a nursery, unless that's the look you're going for. Is the nursery big? The Land of Nod dresser looks really big, so it might overpower the room?

@ladyfingers: I'm not saying it's wrong at all! I guess my thing is if someone had given me a generous amount of money towards nursery items I would get as much as humanly possible within that amount.
Those dresser are great! I'm not knocking that at all. I think it was the sticker shock and I've never heard of spending that much.
But, there is nothing wrong with it. I'm not bashing at all.

I like the Land of Nod one! It's not at all babyish, which means it would grow with your LO--so even though it's expensive, it's not really a "children's dresser", but more a dresser that happens to be used in a nursery for now! :)

@Crisark: I do have IKEA and Target. I don't like any of the dressers I've found at IKEA, and the crib and bookcases in the room will be IKEA and I don't want everything in there to have the IKEA look. The Target dressers I have looked at whose style I like have been very poor quality (laminate, etc.).

We would never be able to buy the dresser on our own, but like I said, our FIL gave us a specific dollar amount that he is contributing to help us buy nursery furniture. The dresser fits within that price range. I don't see anything wrong with buying something pricier than what I would normally buy, if somebody has offered to purchase it for us.

I like the first one the best but that price is outragous. Maybe that's just me but I'd never spend that much on child's dresser. Do you not have Ikea or Target or more reasonable priced stores? I mean if it's in your price range have at it cause that first one is beautiful but I couldn't imagine spending that kinda money on a dresser.

@looch: Yes, that's another reason why I want a dresser of this style in the nursery. I'm not a big fan of furniture that will have to be tossed or replaced later because it's too childish, and I have a mix of thrifted midcentury and solid IKEA pieces throughout the house, so it's a style I'm comfortable with.

I like the feature of the door cabinet in the land of nod dresser, you can use it store larger items if you take out the shelf in the middle (if there is one). It also grows up well, I had one of a similar style growing up and loved it well into my teen years.

So I came home last night and DH tells me that his dad offered to buy us a couple of the more expensive pieces for our nursery -- a glider and a dresser. We were planning on just forking over the cash for the glider (I really want a nicer upholstered one, like the Little Castle gliders), but I was so stressed about the dresser. I have been looking on Craigslist but I'm so picky and I have to minimize the amount of furniture revamping I do (I feel iffy about the stripper, oil stain, etc. fumes, not to mention the labor involved). Normally I would buy a crappy old solid wood dresser for cheap and redo it, but I can't do that right now, and DH doesn't have the patience for it. I can't believe we can actually buy a brand-new dresser that I would never have been able to justify buying on our own.

OK, actually, I did cry.

Because damn, dressers are EXPENSIVE. I want something that's good quality that will last. These are the two I've had my eye on:

http://www.landofnod.com/oak-park-elementary-dresser/f4735

http://www.crateandbarrel.com/ledge-java-6-drawer-dresser/s674021

I like the looks of the Land of Nod dresser better, and the safety stuff it has, like not being able to open more than one drawer at once. But I'm kind of bummed that both of these pieces are a combo of veneer (albeit real wood veneer), hardwood, and engineered wood. It's not like I'm a huge furniture snob, though. I mean, half the stuff in the nursery is going to come from IKEA.

Does anybody have experience with the Land of Nod furniture? I'm pretty sold on it, but I'm open to other ideas. We need to keep the dresser under $1,000, though, and this is definitely the look I'm going for.
